Shiny black engine case - Cheating

Anyone feel free to tell me this is not a good idea, but...

My once-black engine is looking a little grey from road dirt and advancing years. The solution? Once I give it a good wash, scrub and rinse, I let it dry and spray it with tire foam; comes up looking shiny and black (Not too much, because the residue is sticky and will pick up any dust until it dries off). The spray gets btwn all the fins, all those hard to reach places, no hassle.

It works well on the rubber bits too...

Try S100 Engine Brightner. I think you will like it better. It actually brings back any faded areas. And it will last through several washings. Great stuff!!

I have a 83 GS750T with a black motor also. I agree they are hard to keep clean, specially as old as they are. I know that they make a spray cleaner for black coated motors, a cleaner/degreaser and shine. I plan to try it sometime soon, I believe that it is sold mostly at Harley dealers. I'm not sure of the brand name, but I'm sure someone on here will know. If I find out I'll post it here. I haven't tried the tire shine myself, but I would think it would fade or eat the black off.? Can you tell a difference after the shine wears off? Post a picture if you can, I would be interested in seeing the before and after. Looks like renobruce beat me to it. S100 Engine Brightner thats what I was thinking of.

It's for anything black. Plastic, rubber, metal, etc. Use it where you would normally use amour-all. I even use it on my header and tail pipes. It is not effected by heat.... it actually likes heat. Spray it on, let it sit for awhile, and wipe it off. It does not leave an oily residue like amour-all, it wipes off dry. I swear by it.

Dang it, Bruce, I think my bike looked that clean about 22 years ago...!!!

I went looking for S100 at a couple of local dealers, but there's none left; since motorcycling is such a seasonal affair here I guess they only stock as much as they need to get thru the summer.

Note to self: stock up on S100 next spring.

S100 is some great stuff. I bought a can nearly three years ago and it is still going strong. A little goes a long way.

It isn't really a cleaner though so everything should be clean before you use it. otherwise you end up with shiny dirt

Also, you want to stay away from hand/foot controls and the seat. It is some of the most slippery stuff I have ever seen.

I use the S100 Total Cycle Cleaner, and then once it's dry, spray the S100 over every black part on the bike except the tires, seat, grips and footpeg rubber. In about 15 minutes the bike looks great.
