A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Progressive Suspension ( http://www.progressivesuspension.com/ ) - good quality, good performance, good value, ~$225USD

Ikon ( http://www.ikonsuspension.com/ ) - good quality, better performance, good value, ~$350USD

Works Performance - Good quality, OK performance (I have heard varied reports on this, from poor to good), OK value, ~$450USD

Ohlins ( http://www.ohlins.com/ ) - excellent quality, excellent performance, value depends on your wallet size, ~$900USD

Penske ( http://www.penskeshocks.com/home.htm or http://www.traxxion.com/about.shtml ) - superlative qulaity, superlative performance, value same as Ohlins, ~$1000USD from Traxxion

I have the Ikons and am quite pleased with them. The best choice for my money, they offer rebound and preload adjustment and are completely rebuildable. The Progressives do not offer rebound adjustment and are not rebuildable, which lowers their value to me.

Mark, where did you source your Ikons?

Direct from Ikon. I used the e-mail contact info and they shipped them straight to my door. Super fast and helpful service, too. I had them do a custom build with the shocks +1" longer than stock and they had them built in a week and out to me. I think I waited less than 3 weeks in total from first contacting them to the shocks on my doorstep.

That's really impressive. I was expecting close to $400 before shipping. Do you know the spring rate? What makes them worth the extra $100 over the Progressives (not arguing, just making up my mind). Was shipping included in the $350 you mentioned?

The standard build shocks are about $325 I think and it cost me another ~$50AUD to get the custom length. They had a choice of several spring rates, I don't recall off hand what I have. It is the stiffest of the three, though. Actually, it is a bit firm for me (175lb) and I think the next one down would have been the better choice, but that is the way it goes... I do prefer it to be firmer rather than too soft, though.

The things that make them worth more (to me, any way) is the rebound adjustment and the rebuildable design. Progressives do not offer rebound adjustment and are not rebuildable, so the first time I rebuild them I will be money ahead over the PS ones. I had also contacted PS about some longer shocks and they took 2 weeks to answer my e-mail and then never did reply to some additional questions I had. Considering that Ikon had the shocks built and shipped in less than that time, the extra money was well worth it IMO.

Shipping would be above the $350USD I mentioned. Contact them and see what it costs, but I think it was about $40CDN for the shipping (shocks are heavy items to ship...)
