    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I agree with what some of the others have said about the ignition unit needing to be thrown over the nearest hedge but theres one other thing that comes to mind ..... in your previous posts you mention the valves have been set recently i think you need to check out that the valve timing is correct Eg the cams are pointing in the correct direction when the bottom timing mark is in line & that there are the correct number of pins on the camchain between the sprockets

You WILL need either a balast resistor or 3ohm coils, IMO, some guys say you can run it on stockers, but ive heard it will burn the coils out since they are 5ohm.

I run stock coils with the dyna s and have had no problems at all. Dynatek even sells 5 ohm coils for use with the dyna s, although most people prefer the greenies.

Q. Why does Dynatek recommend 5 ohm coils for street use and 3 ohm coils for racing?

A. The resistance of the coil determines how much current flows through the ignition system. The 3 ohm coils, because of their lower resistance, pass more current and therefore run warmer than the 5 ohm coils. If the coils are located where they receive good airflow and are away from engine or exhaust heat, then 3 ohm coils will generally give reliable service on the street. However, when the coils are located under the tank, between the cylinders, or close to the engine with a tight fitting cover, 3 ohm coils may overheat. This is most likely to occur under ?worst case conditions?, such as creeping along in traffic on a hot day in Arizona (this isn?t so great for an air cooled engine either!). Rather than get into the specifics of every application we make the general recommendation - 5 ohm for street, 3 ohm for race.

From his last post date in this thread, and his sig saying the GS1000 is sold, I suspect this is a dead issue.

Feel free to chime in if I'm wrong, Groundshock. I could take some photos under the right side cover of my '79 if anyone is still interested.
