A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I have a pair of showa gas charged shocks on my 82 gs1100e the only identifying marks on them are the numbers 438 671. One is leaking so they will need to be rebuilt. What I am wondering is; are these a shock from the early eighties or are they newer than that. I am doing a complete rebuild and i want to keep everything correct for around 82.

I looked around on line but couldn't come up with anything to give me any idea. I assume they are worth rebuilding if anyone knows different let me know.

thanks,

Those look like Honda shocks from the early '80's. Most likely not rebuildable. Progressives are about $200 or there are cheaper generic options sold under various brand names (do a search on "shocks" and you will get more info).

Good luck.

interesting, so your sayin, nothin special and there are better out there?

They are from an '83 Honda CB1100F and are not rebuildable.
If you like the performance they do come up for sale on E-Bay occasionally in the $50-$100 range. The CB900F shocks are similar but do not have the rebound? adjustment.
www.cb1100f.net is an excellent site for more info on the shocks and an active classified section if you want to replace them with another set.

thanks for the help, time to start looking at new shocks, bummer:-D

Just curious, how well do they work aside from the leaking?
Looks like they fit OK.

very limited time on the road as i got her running mid winter and decided to do a complete tear down, about three weeks ago. I didn't notice any problems everything felt soft when it was supposed to but didn't seem to soft. that being said I probably only put 15 miles on her.

anybody have any experience with hagon fork springs? just wondering how they stack up to progressives version. I think i am going with hagons for the rear so i thought i might keep it all the same.

thanks

Once again I'm amazed at the info that comes from this forum....
