Sigma Bike Computer

Hey all - I've read about using a bicycle computer to "replace" a busted trip odometer. I've also read that Sigma is the one brand that works, because it has no upper limit on speed. I guess other companies assume that if you're going 75mph on your bicycle, knowing your exact speed is irrelevant. Having gotten close to 55mph on mine back in my racing days, I'd say they're right.

But I digress...

I'm posting to find out if the current Sigma models are still unrestricted on speed, and what models folks have had success with on their motorcycles.

I have used a Sigma BC800 - it worked well until I removed it because a new tyre made the odometer accurate again.
Had to solder in an additional piece of wire, to make the pick-up reach to the front hub.
Glued the little magnet on the locking tab for the rotor, and made a small bracket to hold the pick-up.
Newer found a real nice way to route the wire though, stripped it to the odometer cable, but it didn't look too nice.

I saw that thread actually - your set-up looks good. I'm looking for something cheap to track miles until I can save up for new (more likely used) stock clocks, so the $100-120 for those units seemed a little steep.

I'm curious, though. How does the tach work - does it hook into the ignition electrics? Can't be mechanical?

The speedo is dead nuts accurate.

The tach works by wrapping a wire from the Acewell computer around a sparkplug wire. Wish it could be mechanical as that'd work a lot better....never could get the digital tach to stop bouncing around. Maybe I'll futz with it a bit more once the bike's back together.
