If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

I guess "general" fits this subject. I have been looking at all kinds of rubber washers and grommets in an attempt to find a reasonable faximalie to replace the dry rotted ones on the skunk seat aropund the grab rail. Anyone have pics of anything they have done to make replacements..or even an obscure place to find them??

Arent these available thru most vendors or dealers?
I think they're about 3 bux apeice.

No. 4??

Todd, yes it is number 4. But heres the deal..I have 4 1000s and that means i will need 16 to redo all the bikes with good cushions. 16 will cost me 80.00 plus taxes and shipping if i ordered from bikebandit. Now if i can find a suitable replacement and spend 8 or 10 bucks tops for them its worth the savings. I hadnt looked at bikebandit before you posted though. Since I was under the impression the grab rail was obsolete, I incorrectly assumed the cushions would be also.

I'm interested to.Yeah I could just throw them in the parts order but I like......creative solutions

Yes i like creative and way less costly solutions! The cost for 4 bikes is kinda steep i think.

Well if ya figure out a good factory alternative post it up. I can remove em from my latest order list.

I did find one place online that has neoprene washers with the 1/2 inch holes and up to 1/4 thickness. thing is that if you stick two together for the right tickness youll have a visible seam...kinda on the fence about that issue. Sad as it is..I will probably bite the bullet and get them from the dealership..I called and they said they are still available.

It's been a little while since I held one of those grommets in my hands but I seem to remember they have a metal washer encased inside. The washer is there so the grab rail isn't compressing against soft materials (other than the seat cover that is), which will break down and crush/crack/split, and result in loose torque on the grab rail screws. Loose torque on the grab rail fasteners are a bad thing if someone is on the back holding onto it as a safety device. You guys are going to have a hard time finding a substitute for something like this.

They also have a little protruding lip that helps fit tight to the pan to keep the pressure off the cover.
I'll more than likely just order em when I order other stuff from Babbots or the like. Have a compiled list of assorted nuts and bolts. Get it all done at once.
But I can understand Chucks delima though. No way I'd pay 80 bux for a buncha little grommets for several bikes.

$3.46 each from Part Shark.

There was a posting on this site not too long ago (within the past 3 month's) where a member had found something that was extremely similar to replace them with.
IIRC, it was something from a bathroom store or parts for a toilet?

I was planning on just adding a washer over the bolt and the ends of the grab rail will trap it against the seat.. I have already thought that thru . And yes that washer is supposed to stop the ends from galling into the seat material.
