A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

So my issues FINALLY come to an end.

Its over, I found it finally. After looking over the entire charging system, a new R/R, so many carb cleanings I cant even count them anymore, cleaning the tank, running new lines, a new petcick, splicing in dummy wires, coil relay mod, days with the carbs looking at this or that, I even found a burr inside the main carb and drilled that out hoping to find out what the heck was going on since it acted like it was getting no fuel, I drilled out the seats an extra 8 thou over their normal size hoping for more fuel flow since it wound down after getting higher in rpm's.

Still my bike ran up to speed maybe through first gear. Hit or miss. It acted like it had no fiuel at all. Up to 7k hit or miss, then it wouldnt rev past it at all. I checked the fuel level in the bowls, it ran fine, then it was low in the primary carb, then low in the secondary carb. Many nights scratching my head and just asking WTF is going on here? The many rides going uphill and losing all power, symptoms pointing to the carbs, then nothing being wrong with them. So on to the electrical. No dice there. Well here it is.

Yes, A rock.. a single piece of slag was lodged in my exhaust pipe.I pulled the exhaust and ran it. The one part I never suspected because it ran fine before all of this. Complete GS nirvana was achieved at that moment in time. Ran to redline, all the power I ever remembered and more. Of course I still had to cut the muffler open to get the rock out. Then talk the old man across the street into using his MIG welder.. but its finally over. For the first time ever on this little 572 cc bike screamed like it never has before. And power it has now. Granted its a tad rich at the top end, but its all down hill from here. So on to moving needles, synching, maybe a new jetsize.

Id like to thank all the guys that took a stab at trouble shooting this sucker. Through I dont know how many threads now. So once again, thanks guys.

Hi,

Wow. Whooda thunk it? :-k

Thanks for letting us know. Now we have another suspect to put in the lineup when someone is experiencing similar symptoms.

Thank you for your indulgence,

Your the second person in the last couple of weeks who has had a clogged pipe. Food for thought. I know it feels good. Some of get there sooner than others, but not for lack of trying.

Well the upside to this is now I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that the carbs are clean and functioning properly, as is the electrical sytem, and intake, valves, etc.

I'll take a picture of my K&N filters here when I clean them again. The exhaust was backing up and actually coming out of them. Thats what first clued me twards the exhaust. Fuel SPRAYED out the pilots twards the back of the bike. And theres carbon inside the K&N's now. This would explain why the carbs were intermittently not getting any fuel at all. On the left or right side. It was using one side of the intake as an exhaust and just blowing the fuel out of the carb.

Any kids around? Reminds me of the commercial where a little kid puts a peanut butter sandwich in the VCR because it looks like it is "made" for the spot!

Yes, I have a 5 year old Niece. I dont know if shes the culprit though. Shes afraid of the bike for some reason. Anytime I ride to my sisters she hides from it or behind my sister. The funny thing is she LOVES my RM 125. Full throttle isnt fast enough for her. Then again I cant get much past second or really into third from lack of yard. The same goes for her dads Kaw 400. She has no interest in it, but shes not afraid of it.

Could have been a random kid with folks talking at a parking lot, could have been someone trying to be a prick also.

PERSISTANCE PAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

great news to hear ! the feeling of success when you found the elusive problem is like nothing else on earth.

now it runs great time to sell it! ha ha no just kidding...

that is a feeling no one can describe or really share. for sure

Psych 101... She is afraid of it because she put the rock in and doesn't want to get in trouble for doing it...Maybe? Meanwhile, I have 3 grandkids and when they are old enough, one gets the ES and one gets the Harley...

Can you adopt me? Your big-bore ES would fit nicely next to my mostly stock EZ. Plus, I have a buddy with a 'busa that would get a kick out of a GS that would be able to hang with him, until we hit the twisties, anyways.

Oh ya... Now every time someone says their engine won't run right the advice will be "check your exhaust for rocks...".

(Turtleface) The grandkids will get these bikes in 20 years... What kind of technology will be available then...? I wonder if they will even want them?
