    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

looks like a 1977 my brother had one just like it except for the mag wheel that you got on the front
 
I know it is a 1977 (title says so), but I am just wondering which model (B, L, etc) it is :-)
 
Cool, Hoomgar. Thanks for the heads up. Anything specific that made you think that? I'm trying to understand the differences between the different models.
 
your bike is a GS550 that is the only model made in 77, you can call it a GS550B, the B indicating that it is a 77 model.

Suzuki like every one else used letter codes to indicate the year model
A=76
B=77
L=78
N=79
T=80
X=81
Z=82
D=83
E=84
T=85
there have been 7 differant models of 550 over the years, 77 was just the 550 with no letter, there was also a E, ES, ES3, L, M, and T
 
To me, it looks like a 750 B, the standard model with spoked wheels, single disc brake up front, and a flat seat. I don't remember an "E" or "L" model for 1977, but the older I get, the less I remember. Looks like yours has had a later model front mag wheel, a different seat, and lower handlebars installed.
 
I only went by what I could find on several web pages. On most parts web sites they would have it as a B model 750 but there was an E model listed for that year as well and the side covers and emblems on them are identicle to yours.

If it isn't a B, it's an E

You can look up the vin with a Suzuki dealer if you want. They can tell you for sure. At least the ones around here will.
 
It looks like a 77 - GS750B or 78 - GS750C, but it does have a number of mods. The front wheel is off a later model, but not an E - the E had dual discs in front. Aftermarket shocks, handlebar, seat...

Does it have the model and/or date of manufacture on the steering stem?
 
Hehe thanks for all the info guys... looks like my bike is a mutt :-(

The bike is garaged at my girlfriend's place, I will check out the steering stem when I am over there next.

All my title says is that it is a 1977 GS750. I can post the VIN, if that helps...?
 
It would appear to be a 750DB. From my parts disc it appears that the DB is the only model which has the clock cover pictured on your bike (the one with the little "S" emblem to the side of the ignition key).

The mag wheel at the front is obviously not original. These appeared on the EC model from February 1978.

I'm a bit surprised about the single front disc though, as I believe all bikes from the DB onwards (in the UK anyway) had twin front discs. My '77 GS750DB does! A bit like this one.

The spoked wheels, on the GS 1000's, were drilled for dual front discs. They had a cover that hid the bolt holes on the right side. I would think the 750 wheels were the same. When installing a mag type wheel on a bike with single disc set up, you would take the little cover from the right side of the spoked wheel and use this little cover to hide the holes in the right side of the mag type wheel when installed on a bike that had only a single disc as your first pis looks.
 
In the US we didn't get the dual disks until '78 with the 750EC. It also had the stepped seat and alloy wheels. It really looks like a '77 GS750B with a few upgrades. The VIN plate with model number and date of manufacture should answer the question definitively.
