A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Solid State Power Box

UPDATE:

I have 11 kits coming together. They are mostly done except for completing the final assembly of the SSPB. The potting material needs to harden and then a coat of conformal coating over that and they are ready to go.

For those of you that have not ordered yet, there was about an additional 1 month delay while I had the PCB's made for the third time by Silver Circuits and one time by Advanced Circuits. All of the boards currently assembled are from Advanced circuits and I have plenty of bare PCB's.

It has been a challenge (i.e. a lot of work) to do a semi custom production run but it has worked out well and I think everybody that ordered one will be happy with the SSPB.

I will probably ship these on Wed as I have other responsibilities tomorrow and I just put the potting material in tonite (it takes 24-48 hours to set).

Close ups of the prototype enclosures with the three base options Horizontal, Diagonal and Tabless. (PCBA is not installed)

Based on the current orders I built mostly the tabless , with diagonal coming next. I built the fewest of the horizontal (only 2 left)

16 partially assembled PCB's of the Rev C (NO RED or GREEN Wires!!!)

I may need to order a few more parts, but generally I'm ready to produce some more if I can get at least a lot of 5 more. This was 11 complete units which takes about 60 hours to assemble. I'm hoping that will drop as I get better having gone through the process. I have more assembled boards but the case, heat sink and cables are basically semi custom options so I need specific orders to configure and bond the PCB to the base.

Send me an email at

solidstatepowerbox@gmail.com if you are interested in getting one.

Thanks, Jim, for everything!! I await my tabless sspb and will install it asap!!

Jim,

I'm currently building a custom based off a Yamaha XS650. I'm assuming I could adapt the SSPB for that platform as well correct?

What about using all LED lighting. Is that a possibility?

Thanks.

The SSPB should work with any bike or junction box that has 10 amps per channel with 15 amps max. It should go higher (20 and maybe 25 amps peak) but that is something I need to test.

The LED's should be no problem. There are even LED displays.

All it really needs is an ignition switch and kill switch. The headlamp cutout is optional (if you don't connect START then it will not kill the headlamp but it will come on with the IGN SW)as well as the Acc** output.
The Acc** can be:

  • always off,
  • Switched with IGN
  • externally switched High side
  • externally switched Low side.

I'll take some more pictures tomorrow after the conformal coating drys. That was the last step before refitting the cover.

I expect to be sending out units tomorrow (including yours) :)

If you have a schematic of what you plan to do I can take a look at it and offer recommendations as might be required.

Should be shipped USPS tomorrow; sorry about the PCB delays but now you are getting Rev C and I think you will like it.

I have been testing all the units with no heat sink and they get a little warm when being shorted, but with the epoxy and heat sink there is much less heat rise doing similar tests. It is only 2-4 watts so just the wires coming out will dissipate a lot of heat even without the heat sink.

All 9 units shipped USPS today and you all should get tracking info by email. (except greg78gs750 who wants a change in base and it will take another week).

More videos to come.

Great news. Things are still tight here after my move and remodeling, but I hope I can get an order in before the stampede.:)

Mine arrived too. I like the labels.

Glad these things are arriving so fast. If you back the screws off about 1/4" then you can open the cover to see the jumpers.

I guess I better do another Youtube video. :o

Mine arrived as well Jim. This thing looks and feels beefy. I'm thinking I might use it on my current project bike and possibly buy another for the Suzi. When will you be ready for new orders?

ready now; I have plenty of bare boards now.

Video is marked private.

OK I changed it to public. It is about 26 min long so it is apparently processing all video formats but there is probably on that will be visible for you now.

I also see that I did not get tracking info on everybody but apparently all have been delivered except those going to Canada.

Jim,
Congratulations with a very professional looking design! It looks well constructed and I would forecast that you are most likely going to get positive feedback from those who are using it!

Well done!
