A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

some help for a newbie would be much appreciated

here's my carbs. can anyone tell me anything about them? such as where is my adjustment screw and is it fuel or air? and maybe anything about if they're good or not? I've been reading the internets all day and not figuring this out. i'm a newbie and am just trying to learn how to work on my own bike instead of paying someone. thanks in advance!

we could, if we could see the pic, also if you told us what bike you own we may even be able to work out what carbs you have!

I, too, have problems seeing some posted pictures while at work, but I just realized that I am using my own laptop on the "guest" network, so should be able to see them.

Sorry, notronk, all we see is a box with a red X in it. And, like Agemax said, what bike?
You have your approximate location in your profile, take another minute or two to add your bike to your sig.

.

Me too....nothing to see :(

We would all love to help you and any other newbies, especially if you want to learn to wrench, but you have to help us a wee bit. Add some more info to your signature or at least tell us what you have.

Cheers,
Spyug

Weird? works on my computer. Here's another. I uploaded it to my album on here. I have a '78 GS1000.

they are Mikuni VM carbs. should be 26's on a 78 GS1000. yours dont look stock Suzuki as they have no air screws on the sides.(should be just in front the pod filters on the side)

It appears to me that somebody has assembled your carb rack incorrectly.

I say that because I see no air screw on the side of that carb, which leads to other, more-puzzling questions.

If it goes on the other side of the bike, why is the fuel inlet not flowing gas out the right side?

Are they even the correct carbs?

looking closer at the pic, it appears he has the very rare vertical mount VM's. dont see many of those around nowadays! ;)

Most curious. Can you take a picture of the #1 carb. I'm thinking someone put them together wrong as well. Maybe they're Kawasaki carbs? I'll look a mine in the shed later.

Well, by consensus, they're VMs

They need to be pulled, broken down and cleaned. See the tutorial for VM carbs on BassCliff's site and go from there.

What everyone is commenting on is that there should be a brass adjustment screw just ahead of the air filter, as seen on the left carb here

I have to admit, in all my years on GSR, I have never seen such an ability to take a simple straight shot and make it into a neck twister, and with consistency to boot.

Those sure don't look like my Kawisaki carbs. I have no idea what carbs those are, interesting. 'BigT' is right though, what ever they are they need cleaning to know if they're good or not. See if you can find any numbers on the sides of the carbs. Weird thing is #4 isn't even the same as #1. It's missing the protrusion where the air mixture screw would be but #1 has that protrusion....very strange indeed.

Really? You might want to use Preview Post to see why they are being rotated 90 degrees. Are you using PhotoBucket or some other picture hosting site?

Well there's yet another thing I did not know. VM's with one tuning screw, who knew. If you do take them apart measure them to know if they are 26mm or 28mm, most likely 26 but as someone says "to measure is to know".
