Some help with my throttle please?

This might be a very stupid question, but I'm having no luck finding the answer online or in the Haynes manual.

Should something inside the control housing physically stop the throttle tube at a closed position/off position, or is it just the cables that stop it turning?

I ask as my GS550 didn't have the original throttle tube on it and I've fitted an R1 throttle as a replacement, but it doesn't touch anything inside the housing.

As as side note, is there any difference in push and pull cables physically? I need to replace the push as it didn't have that either, but don't know what it should be like.

The pull and return cables are the same. Assuming you have a 78/79 GS550.

No physical stop on my '80 model. And i just fitted a new tube, which had housings for two cables, so I'm guessing Suzuki saw no need to change the tube when they went from VM to BS carbs.

So can get a positive closure/snap without it physically stopping? If so any tips on how?

Lastly, you didn't happen to change the throttle cables did you? I think my bike takes the same as yours but I'm struggling to find the right size with the plastic control housing screws.

The 'at rest' position of the throttle tube is determined by the throttle stop (idle screw) on the carburettors.

I've just fitted a new throttle cable, but I don't recall where I got mine from. Bear with me, I'll have a look through my internet history.

Bear in mind that the above link is for a single cable BS carb set-up. The cables for VM carbs may be different.

Thanks, that's good of you to look out where you got your cables from.

Yes I understand that the idle position is set like that, I was meaning the solid feeling of a stop position when you let the throttle return. I just can't figure out why you throttle doesn't turn all the way forward when noting physical stops it? Perhaps if I had correct length cables, everything would fall into place.
