A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

was out playing on the bike earlier...got in town an heard a clicking while accelertating...

it sounds different at idle, clicks like say a loose valve sound...higher rpm it gets louder...

bike dont miss or backfire, clicking in much louder on right side while riding..(left you barley hear it)...bog it down..say 5th gear at 30-40 mph at wot the sound goes away pretty much

valves were in adjustment around 2500 miles ago

unknown mileage also...bikes an 81 850g

any ideas on noise?

I too would look into an exhaust leak, they can sound like something metallic.

Happened to me twice..

My 650 had a tick between 3000 & 5000 rpm, only did it under load, and I could not trace it, a mechanic friend had a look and said it could be cam ware, valve stems etc........ anyway the exhaust clamp on no3 had a bit of soot on it, so I got some new exhaust gaskets and replaced them, they fixed the leak and it also looks like it has fixed the ticking as well (I have only been out on it once since though) :)

im pulling it apart sunday to look at it....i noticed on my engine im rebuilding the 850 has 2 valve springs per valve...could one have broken or gave out from high rpm stress?

i think its weird i can hear it on the right side...on the left its damn near not noticeable

wasnt a valve spring...it went the rest of the way today...now its missing an knocking super loud

Beg borrow or snitch a bore scope. That or pull the clutch cover and inspect the clutch basket.

Can you make a sound image/video of the noise?

I'm thinking more along the lines of dampener springs broken. That or a circlip came off one of the piston pins.

startded it to make a video...it said no an quit running..

buddy offered me a price as is...i may take it an search for a bigger gs to be honest

broke from all the wheelies..... at least one in every post....

yea probably not...i put over 30000 in a little over a year...i rode every day highway gravel and so on..plus the bike had 40000 on it to start with...minus the oh 5000 or more i put on with a non workin speedo

and im pretty sure it has well over 100000 miles on it...

wheelies are far from its issue

plus its sold and im looking at an 1100e
