DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hey all..

Sparkplugs - I just noticed that the shop that installed spark plugs a while ago put NGK b7es plugs on when my clymer manual says my bike needs b8es. What is the difference? and how would that affect my spark?

Thanks,

Satch

the heat range of the plug wont affect the intensity of the spark but does effect how hot the plug it'self gets, if you have problems with plugs fouling, a hotter plug will last longer, or prevent the plugs from fouling.
A cooler plug can help correct a detonation problem, and a hotter plug can help with a cold start problem.
they probably put in the hotter plugs due to two things, one= you are in Canada and the hotter plug works better up there, two= (probable reason) they decided on the hotter plugs due to the condition of the old plugs. You are having fuel consumption problems, correct?

Yeah, enormous fuel consumption problems. Earl's been gracious enough to send me up some new (used) coils as mine were out of spec, I installed them today, checked the spark and it's still not a big blue one.

Although I would like to know what is a big blue one supposed to look like? I'm getting a ton of these little orange jobbies. While I was checking out the plugs I noticed the numbering was different from what the manual was calling for.

Should be no need for the hotter plugs unless it is to cover up for other problems. It may do the job, but keep an eye on them.

Forgot to say thanks for the help guys, now I know the difference :D

I think I'll run the hotter plugs until I have my other problems sorted out.

how many volts are the coils actually getting?

from what i've read in the past the switch on the handle bar (run) can get corroded and cause a higher resistance in the 12v switched power to the coils.

The coils are getting pretty much what's coming out of the battery with minimal loss. I checked all my connections and switches up on the bars and they're not creating resistance..

I checked my condensers and they're not working right, so I'm going to replace those and the points as well.

I don't know what else might be causing this weak spark.
