A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Ever sence i took my guage cluster apart to work on the fuel guage there is a squeeling noise that comes from the speed guage. It didn't do this before and it dose it only when i hit around 20 mph and above. What did i do wrong? and ideas? its a 81 gs 650. Also if i reach up and squese the speed cluster it ether stops till i let go or it isn't as loud

What did you oil, the gear inside the tach behind the needle or just the spot it bolts in?

i oiled the cable and in were the cable plugs in to. ill be takeing it back apart tomorrow to see if there is something rubbing.

Only reason I ask is because when I got mine working it squealed and it was the little gear behind the needle that spins. Just needed some squirts and it was good to go.

did you have to take it apart to oil it or did you just spray it in the shaft hole?

Lubricate it in between the threaded part that the outer cable threads onto, and the inner part that spins with the inner cable. The squealing is caused by the inner part rattling around inside the outer part as it spins, due to no lubrication. You will have to remove the speedometer and hold it upside down so the oil gets to the right place. It needs to go up inside there an inch or so. Something like spray lithium grease will probably work.

What he said.

I pulled it off turned it upside down and the drip bottle I used had a long thin bendable plastic straw so I just shoved it in the hole and between the mech. and the plastic to the drive wheel. Depending on your situation you might have to pull it apart but its self explainatory once you have it off and look down into it.

:)sorry it been so long but i did what you guys said and its all good now. no noise. thanks

Good to hear you didnt lose any parts.

Now time to test if it squeals in the 120mph range (just kidding dont do that.)
