A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I bought a late seventy model 140mph speedo. (79 GS550) It has a larger diameter and the mount bolts are farther apart than on my stock speedo.
Has anyone done this? Any tricks on the mounting?

The 79 550 speedo does not have a the self cancelling turn signals. The speedo case has a marking the exact same size as my 80 speedo for installing the self-cancelling piece in the speedo. If I seperated the case and cut this piece out to mount the stock sensor would my self-cancelling work? Even though the pre-80 and my bike had different self-cancelling boxes does the sensor in the speedos function the same?

I know it would be easier to get an 83 L model speedo but I love a challenge.

Ooohh, be careful with that, Chef. That 1100 just might overpower a lil' ol' 550 speedo. :D

Might turn it into a 280 mph unit.

.

OK boys and girls.
I took the 79 550 speedo and opened it up. The first thing I did was break the dial indicator. Lucky I had an extra speedo around and I stole one from that. The needle popped off and it took me an hour to find it in my shed. Talk about a needle in a hay stack.
Ground the diameter of the face plate with the MPH markings in about a 1/4 in on the larger 140mph speedo. I had to install little washers under the face plate so the dial indicator stop was high enough.
Cleaned and greased the 140mph innards.
Installed the 140 speedo into my stock casing.
The turn-signal auto-cancel works. :dancing:
Now I need to check it to see if it's accurate.

This thread is usless without pics

You gonna grind off that little stop to check extended range above 100-140 mph for accuracy? :dancing:.

Pos

On the ride to work today that thing screeched so loud I disconnected the darn thing.
Back to the drawing board.

Greased the channel where the cable attaches and the other side that spins the magnet. No more noise. Now to see how it works tomorrow.
I think this thing sat a LONG time.

IT WORKS!
Got to SEE me going 100mph today. No more 85mph speedo. :dancing::clap:
