    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I have looked through my 78 gs1000 zuki manual and cannot find info on the speedometer and tachometer ratios.

I am sure there must be a simple way to solve my problem.

I would bet that the identical GUTS of these NIPPO speedometers were used in many bikes.... but dont know what to google to find what would be compatible.

Also, I wonder if there are companies today that make new speedometers or the GUTS to them, that will work in our bikes.

People selling clusters on ebay are asking (not selling) crazy prices.

There is.

You take the speedo apart and count the number of teeth on the drive (input) gear and the driven (the one on the odometer) gear and divide. I suspect it's the same with the tachometer.
 
Hi,

The answer is in the forum. I have searched for this a couple dozen times and each time I tell myself I'm going to write it down so that I don't have to look it up again.

I seem to recall that the speedo is 4:1 and the tach is 2440:1. I'll be back after I do a quick search.

Hi,

OK, I'm back. That didn't take long.

Speedo = 4:1

Tach = 2240:60

I think most of the aftermarket replacement speedos and tachs (especially the electronic ones) are configurable to whatever the bike needs. Different makes use different ratios.

just if you curious...the 750 850 1100 1000 etc is all the same (correct if im wrong)

i run 92 gsxr 750 gauges...the speedometer is dead on...and others say the tach is more trustworthy then cable...which i do belive as well

but yes cliff is right as always
