    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

sprocket reversible?

hi guys, i had the opportunity to remove my front sprocket when doing some work under the clutch cover. the sprockets are fairly new, but there is a little wear. not enough to replace, imo, (less than 10000 mi, and new chain kept in adjustment) but i was wondering if the front sprocket can be turned around to even the wear out? it seems pretty symmetrical, but i dont know.....

Yes, you can flip a sprocket. My brother did it to his dirt bike with no problem at all.
 
It's been a long time, but I don't remember the O.E.M. sprocket on my GS 1000 & GS 1100's being off-set. I've just been thinking, in the last few days, about fliping the sprocket on the wife's 550. Haven't taken it apart to see if it's the same on both sides yet.
 
this one looks pretty symmetrical....not 'offset"....ill give it a try. what's the worst that can happen?!?!?!?!

A derailed, chain at 60 mph locking up the rear wheel sending you into a tree?


personally I think I would just replace the sprocket......
 
Just a thought, If the sprocket is marked, install it to go the specified direction. If it isn't marked, that should indicate it doesn't matter.

right. i was being facetious. the sprocket is really in pretty good shape, you cant actually see any wear, you can just feel it is a little smoothed out. thanks guys!
 
That's what i like about this old world, each of us usually do what we think is best. Here I like both options, now I must figure what I think is the best for me.
