DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I have a 78 GS 750 and I was looking into changing out my sprockets. I have the 41 in back and assume my front is a 15 (have yet to pull the cover). So I am looking to go down in the front and or up in the back for some more punch off the line.

My question is what would be a good happy medium between get up and go and highway cruising? I was thinking 13 front and stock in back or 42.

Thanx

Changing two teeth in the front is a major change. The engine is going to rev it's guts out on the freeway. I'd limit the change to one tooth.

Keep the stock 15T on the front and change the rear to a 44T. If you go smaller on the front, the chain has a tighter radius to go around and is probably not a great idea. IMHO.
Also, the stock ratio is 2.73:1 and with the 15/44 you will get a 2.93:1 ratio which is probably all that you want.

This is why I asked, wasnt sure how crazy of a change it would be. I had a 2 down sprocket on a FZR back in the day, it was very noticeable and a bit much if I am honest.

I was kinda guessing with the 13 sprocket, so maybe a 14 would be just fine.

The guts won't come out. These things love to rev. The most important question is what purpose will you use the bike for? Freeway cruising? Back canyon blaster? Zipping around in the city? You want a wheelie special?

Some folks like to hear the engine sing, others don't want to know it's there.

Which type are you?

I might go one tooth smaller in front, and maybe a little larger in the rear, not much. But I am compensating for a lack of power due to high elevation, too.

Three in the rear is about equal to one in the front. There are ratio calculators available online that will help you figure out what you want.

But even a small numeric change is pretty big when you get on it and ride.

Would a 520 conversion be a good idea?

Minus the wheelie special add the occasional drag strip visit.

I personally feel if you cant hear it before you see it than it aint cool. With that being said I work 30 miles from work and its all 65mph+ and the bike is the preferred mode of transportation from April - October. So if I am buzzing 7k everyday to work and back not sure if that a super good idea, but I dont know.

Hey there guys, I was wondering where I can get a chain and sprocket conversion kit I want to switch to a 530 set-up, thanks.

Z1 Enterprises. Call and talk to them, there are real people there and they know this stuff.
