Square headlight on 83 GS1100E???

I like the square headlight on my big bike. It has a very retro look. And I like the body style of the '82-'83 GS1100 better than my '80. So that makes it win-win for me.

Now on my '78 GS1000 I like the original round headlight. It has a kind of Marlon Brando look with the low flat seat, and low bars.

I like the 8 inch also. Has been a Biatch finding a decent small fairing that will fit these rascals though!! 8-[ :?

Michael,

You could always do like solo suzuki as use a trimmed down 1150 fairing mounted bikini style. I have one I plan on doing that to eventually.

Hmm, I guess I missed that one. Let me research that. Thanks Billy.:-D

Here you go buddy.

Billy, I've got a PERFECT red and black 1150 fairing in the attic that I plan to do the same with. The key defference here is that YOU will actually do it. I will just notice the dusty thing every years when I bring down the Christmas decorations.

I've had mine for 3 or 4 years so don't feel bad. I'll be repainting hopefully in the next year so I'll make all the bodywork match and trim the fairing.

The '82 I just picked up has the square light....at first I planned on gettin' rid of it. After lookin' at it awhile...I'm not sure anymore.

I looked at Rifle Monday, only listed for an 7 inch, I emailed them but have no response yet.

Rifle uses inserts for the headlights on the Superbike and Sport fairings, & 8" is one of the options. Not sure, but I think you could even swap out the insert if you found a used one.

Omar's sells a nice looking little cafe fairing for the 8" headlight. Not cheap, but it looks great. They've got rearsets and a bunch of other stuff too.

I got a Wes Cooley from a local salvage shop a few years ago for $20. The headlight well is deep and tapered, so I was able to cut some away so it fit the 8". Works great and would really loook good if it didn't have the dull spray can paint job.

I got a GPz550 square headlight from the bone yard, and put it on my 82gs11e. I didn't like the spotlight.

I have always liked the idea of a doing a full fairing swap.
Taking the one from skip['s / Luke's 1150 and bolting direct on.
Kind of like this, wrong color though:oops:

I have done some frame- up work this last spring when I got her, and only a few small brackets are needed to fit right on.
I will have to lose my risers, unless I re-configure the bar situation, but that steps are in trial still.
Rode with it semi- mounted with Jethro and should be bit chin\\:D/
To gain a windshield that protects nicely, turn signals and mirrors on the fairing.
And the headlight keep straight as you turn.
Had to remember that feeling:-s
Make for the beginning of Old Skool Sport-Touring GS

The cut- down fairings are sweet.
Depends on what you want.
Will be here to give you any ideas.
