I have two bikes. A 1978 gs750e and a 1992 zx600c2 ninja(crappy bike but very fast) I ordered a stage 1 jet kit from K&N directly. they also have stage 3 jet kits available. I have a vance and hines aftermarket pipe on the bike. Will I be able to run the stage 3? or will it be simply to fast for the street after all the tweaking it done. Also, does anyone know of a forum like this one for zx6 ninjas?

thanks.
chris

P.S. Avoid riding sport bikes in the rain. Baaad idea-lest you become a street pizza.

the carb kits are not magic. Go with the stage three as long as you have aftermarket vance and hinz exhaust . I asume you will put pods on also. you will notice the improvement after the tuning is done but too fast for the street. Send me some of whatever that is.

Propably you just need a stage 1 kit if you anly hav an aftermarket system. The stage 3 kit gives improved throttlelift if you also run a KN in the box or even 4 without the airbox. Thats just why one would need a Jet kit. To maintain throttlelift even at poor vacuum, wich btw is measured poor almost by any modification done on a bike. Again a word about lean mixture due to poor lift: On our aircooled engines the cylindertemperature gets unhealthy high very easy resulting in the small cracks between valveseats and sparkplugholes. NAg NAG? Yes, but that comes for free -the repair doesnt

Also with stage 3 the rain has a tendency to run off the gas tank (on that yr.model) and into 1&4 air filters when you stop at a light. But, you can make the airbox into a glovebox.

Scotty,I dont plan to put on pods right away. Will I need to if I throw in the jets? Will it run to rich if I dont pod it out. The thing is fairly exciting to ride in the rain as it is. ( I am on the look out for single thumper bike and reccomendations let me know) So, what I am getting is: Stage 1 for fast Stage 3 for major wheely action.

Am I right on?

not exactly, a jet kit isn't a magic way to make your bike faster, it is simply designed to help properly tune the carbs after mods such as aftermarket high flow exhaust, high flow airfilters, ported heads, degreed lumpy cams, higher compression... Stage three is designed for POD filters, maybe a highflow stock replacement, aftermarket pipes and or an overworked engine. IF all you've done is the pipe, and don't plan to do the pods, DO NOT get a stage 3, you will probably run very rich if you do, because you'll be compensating for a high-flow low vaccuum condition that you won't have, which could cause very poor performance, instead of rediculous speed.

Just my understanding

If you already have the aftermarket pipe on and your plugs read fine leave the thing alone. As a couple of folks have said, the kit is for tuning but not necessarily a hop up mod. Do the kit if you like but i think i hear you having the impression that you just installa kit and the bike runs properly. You may regret the mod if you dont like taking the carbs on and off. HOWEVER.If it is a hobby for you then go for either kit and adjust the tuning(air cleaners or whateves) as needed. I almost forgot that you should take the waning that DaveO gave you into consideration. That sort of thing could ruin your riding enjoyment. One of the reasons i kept my air box.

Thanks

Yes, I have worked on the GS carbs. I rejetted them after I got a vance and hines pipe. With the ninja, it has a high flow vance and hines pip on it. Also the stock air box is a piece of crap. The GS airbox is much better. I do ride this bike in the rain. Right now, the carbs are in need of some serious cleaning. I would like to get this bike to its full potential. When this bike is running good, it is oooohhhh so fast(to me anyway). Also very small and stealthy. Also, does anyone know of a ZX6 owners group like this one?

Thanks
