DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hello all,
My son's 82 GS1100EZ don't start.
We removed the side cover and hit the starter button. The starter turned and the matching gear spun as well. I did not notice the clutch drive out. Can someone explain to me the operation of this? If it is bad, I don't see anything but the spring or the roller (got that from bikebandit.com's exploded view of the clutch) that might be the problem or broken.
I'm sure all you guru's can help. I see all the problems that you guys take care of.

Thanks

Ernie

Pull that rotor/clutch assy off. I bet the three bolts the hold it together are sheared.

This is a common occurrence if the rear wheel is locked up without disengaging the clutch. The inertia of that fat rotor shears the bolts.

You need to get the main nut loosened a couple of turns to start with on the crankshaft and then loosen the rotor and starter clutch unit from the crank. 1100EZ will need the Suzuki rotor puller to do that.

Don't put a 3 legged puller on or you will need a new rotor. If it hasn't been off for a while the rotor and starter clutch will be very tight to the crank.

I'd go with the others on the bolts sheared off.

Its probably harder getting to the starter clutch than the repair job.

Suzuki mad.

Thanks to all. I haven't got the rotor off yet because I'm waiting for the correct tool. I was looking at it again last night and it does apear to have broken bolts.

Thanks again for all your help.
You guys & gals are the best.

Ernie

If you were close EZ you could have borrowed the tools.

Don't pay big bucks for the special tool. All you need is a long bolt that fits the center hole. Put a large washer and a weight on the bolt and screw it in. Use the weight like a slide hammer to pull the rotor. You should be able to get the hardware you need from Lowes or Home Despot for less than $10.
