    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Starter Motor Lead

I am trying to change out the starter lead and main lead to from the solenoid to the battery. I was able to find the lead to the solenoid but cant seem to locate the starter lead. I dont have the tools to crimp large wire and I would rather just purchase the leads if possible already prepared. I was looking at some vendors online but cant locate the part number in any of the diagrams. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to find the part number/lead?

It's in the electrical page, but not in the diagram.
The battery to solenoid lead is shown as #6. Go down the list to 6-2 to find the solenoid -starter lead.

Order that part number from a local or online dealer. Brendan's in Ireland and that's a UK site

Keep in mind that the negative cable from the battery to the back of the engine is just as important.

There is also a chance that you might find one at your local auto parts store. Yeah, they will tell you that they need to look up a part number, just tell them that you want to see the assortment of "universal" cables hanging on the back wall. I think the stock one is 8-gauge. Like Redman says, don't forget to check the ground cable from the back of the engine to the frame.

If considering "universal" battery cables, I happened to see some at a Batterys Plus store. THey stock them for use in golf carts, mostly to tie the batteys in series (or whatever). That store only had a choice of two lengths: short, and not so short. Both with eyelets. I did use one on my Honda Shadow battery.

Yeah I thought so too at first but that part is listed as superseded by another part number that is Lead Battery Wire (-). I have been looking online as well and I still cant find one.

I went to my FLAPS and found a 6 gauge cable in the lawn & garden but it is a bit short at 19". Any other suggestions would be helpful.
 
Does anyone know the length of that cable so I can purchase it elsewhere? I cant find that cable for any comparable older bikes? Whats the deal with that?
