All new forum registrations must be activated via email before you have full access to the forum.

A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Have a 83 GS1100E the problem is... at times I will hit the starter and it drags like the batt. is dead... I will then wiggle wires around and it will start no problem.. to me it seames like broke wire , bad ground will preform test tis weekend to find problem any one ran into this?

i replaced the wires from the batt to solenoid and to the starter with new ones - no need for oem, any auto electrician can do that for you
cleaned all the contacts and with some dielectric grease it's all good now :)

remove wire that you wiggle to get it working. measure it and go to walmart or any auto parts store or a lawn mower shop. they will have a wire the size you need. worse case you will need to buy one longer and a end to crimp on.

Your problem could be the crimped connector is not snug on the wire or the bolt/nut that is holding the connector to another component is not tight. Take another look at the wire you are wiggling to see if the connector is sliding around where it should be tight. If it is not moving, it's likely the crimp.

you will find it

you will find it

Kraz,

Well, depending on if you are just trying to get it started, or if you are trying to determine more specifically where the problem is: Next time it will not start: Try wiggling just one wire at a time, not wires, better yet, try just wiggling one end of one wire at a time then try starting it. Maybe can better idnentify witch connection is bad. That will give you some good idea of which wire it is that needs some attention.

Or maybe you can look for some wire that is suspect, connection that seems loose or wiggles, or has corrosion.

WHich wires are these anyway? The thick wires (from battery to solenoid to starter or battery to to ground)?

You will find this problem and be riding.
I will be raking leaves and scrapping frost off my car.
