I had the rotor pulled off the crankshaft and discovered a broken and a couple of loose damaged bolts in the starter clutch. The 1100 crankshaft is a smaller dia than the 1150 but most of the parts interchange. Built one out of the two and reassembled. Started it - it was fine. The next day started a 2400km 3 day trip. No problems. The engine is smoother and quieter now. BTW the 1100 starterclutch bolts were loose too. Seems to be a common thing!
