A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

So, got this bike a few weeks ago as my first bike. Always wanted a bike and this was a great deal. 83 GS750T.
It will start up and run and I can take it down the road and back and let it idle and keep on the throttle slightly to keep it running but eventually, it will die or I'll just shut it off and I'll try to start it again but it acts like the battery is dead. Dim headlight/neutral light, starter barely turning, etc... From here, I have to jump it. If the bike is running at idle and I have a multimeter connected to the battery, I can watch the voltage slowly drop. If I give it some gas and rev it a little the voltage picks up but as soon as I stop revving it drops back down to where it was before the revving and continues to slowly drop. If I leave it sit for a while without jumping it, 20 minutes or so, I can walk right up to it, put the key in and start it right back up without jumping. I've kept the multimeter connected and have watched the voltage go back up as it sits. Feel like something is just drawing a ton of power from the battery for some reason or there's a loose wire I'm missing. I've checked most of the connections and wires and they seem to be connected and okay for the most part, cleaned grounds off and made sure they have good contact, have a brand new battery, brand new starter solenoid, and brand new R/R. Wish I would have found this forum sooner, probably would have saved me a lot of time, now I'm just trying to get some/any more input.
Any info is much appreciated.

Thanks

Welcome aboard: Pictures of the bike are always nice.

See the Quick Test in my signature and report the full results if you want a diagnosis.

Welcome to the site. We don't usually give help until we see pictures............;) kidding..sort of, There are some fairly simple tests you can to determine that your charging system is working properly.

have a read thru this thread and report what your results are. What brand is the R/R you have put in and how have you wired it up?

ha,ha.....I type too slow. The man himself already posted..

Haha I'll get some pictures up as soon as I get her back together. Currently slightly in pieces until I can figure out this problem. Thanks for the input though. I'll check out everything over the weekend and post the results as soon as I have them.

You can start with GS Charging Health and get a leg up on the problems without having the bike running.

Figured it out...finally. Just took me a while to get around to checking everything. New stator on the way. Thanks for the info!

Even if everything is normal, it doesn't charge much at all at idle.
