    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hey everyone. I've been reading so much about the work that others are doing on their bikes that I thought I would brag a little about my own bike. I posted a couple of pictures in another thread, but I thought I would start my own where I can post updates if anyone cares to see them. I bought this bike a couple of years ago while I was stationed in Louisiana. I bought locally on e-bay for $200. I thought I had ripped the guy off. Man was I wrong. The bike was origianally set up as tourer but it had been sorely neglected for a long time. It had no battery and the tank leaked like a sieve. The guy I bought it from lived in a trailer park and had just leaned it against his house when he bought a new bike. I put it in the trailer I had rented and brought it back to Ft. Polk with dreams of having a great superbike. I got it running but it was in bad shape. The fork seals were shot and it was like riding a waterbed. I had no indoor work shop and I had to do everything in a gravel parking lot. Needless to say, I really didn't have the right environment to do what needed to be done. I cleaned the carbs in my barracks during a holiday weekend when everyone was away. I also lapped the valves that weekend. Unfortunately, they were too far gone to be lapped. I put the bike back together anyway and tried to start it. It never did develop compression and I finally gave up. I decided that I wanted to ride a bike, not work on one. So, I bought something else. Eventually, I got transferred off of Ft. Polk. I left the bike in the parking lot, but for some reason, I kept the title. A few months later, a buddy of mine called and asked if I still wanted the bike. He said he was coming back to the area and that he had room in his trailer. I said "sure, why not." At least this time, I had a house with a garage and a little more money. I started disassembling hte bike again. I sent the head out to be rebuilt and had it done right. I went completely through the top end and I had the frame powder coated. So far, I've rebuilt the forks, gone through the wiring harness and replaced any bad connectors. I've also done a ton of painting and polishing. I still need to go through the brakes and the carbs again. I have to say, the whole time I've been working on this, my prevailing question has been "Is this thing actually going to run." We'll see. Right now, I figure I'm about two weeks from the moent of truth. It won't be rideable but I can at least see if it will start. Everything after that is gravy as far as I'm concerned.

Well not as bad as you seemed to make it out to be ,what with the trailer leaning and all.

I could take or leave the green frame but...

Overall there is lots of potential and especially with an arse kickin 90hp engine.

If you are going to do it, it might as well be with a gs1000, I'm guessing an E model based on the tank.

Time and money is relative as a buddy of mine spends hundreds on his store bought beauty and this just for someone else to perform routine maintenance.

Yeah, green frame fork boots, drag bars. That's the great thing, it's my bike. I can do whatever I like. I was going to go with a black frame but, when I saw the color sample for the green, I couldn't resist. I have to say that it looks better in person. Its come a long way, and I know I have a ways to go. I still have to go through the brakes, the carbs and also figure out the seat. I'll post some before pics when I get the chance.

My camera takes pictures that are bigger than what is allowed on this forum, so I had to resize them. Here is a front shot and also a picture of my new taillights. I think these will look really zoomy. They fit perfectly in the stock cowl. I'm sure after I get everything else sorted out, I'll make a different cowl for it. I still have plenty of work to do. All of the body parts need attention and I have to do something about the seat. It's one of the old diamond tuck poofy touring seats that they used to put on I'll probably just cut the foam down and fit seat cover to it.

Nice work on salvaging a classic. I am not sure if you can tell from my photo below but I bought this bike from a guy that loved bikes enough to keep it garaged but had not started it in over 6 years. I have been tracking down replacement parts for months and hope to have it road ready and possibly show ready by the end of the month.

Here are a couple of great photo tips for you to use on the forums.
There are free online Photo Hosting sites that you can put your photos then you can just put a link to the photo in the forums. The great thing about this is that you are only limited to your hosted sites size limits. As far as the forums are concerned you are just posting a few bytes of text. It saves forums storage capacity and bandwidth.

Here are two that I use.

If you want to share an entire album then Google's Picasa Web albums is the way to go. I prefer Photobucket because I can limit access to the single photo I am referring. Once you upload your photos there are links below the photos that you can click on and it automatically does a text copy (i.e Cntrl + C) then on the forums all you have to do is to do a (Cntrl + V) to paste the link. If you use the bottom link of the 3 (img code) then on the forums it will appear as your full photo. Also the beauty of it is that you do not have to edit your images for size and it is pretty easy to upload the images.

Example Here is me on my 1979 GS750E. (this is nothing more than a link that has your browser pull the image from my off-site image storage site)
I will delete this photo and post after I see you are good with it so as not to take up space on your rebuild thread. Someone PM'ed me that I should keep the post up because they loved the advice. I will make a separate post not in your thread so it will be available after I delete this one.

Hmm...Something isn't quite right and I can't figure out why. Gustovh when I see your post I only see the blue link but not the image until I click on it. But when I look at the link itself it all looks correct.

Ha-Ha Never let the computer win. I figured out the problem Gustovh you somehow got "?t=1176475350" after the "jpg" and before the "bracket-slash-img-bracket" remove the "?t=1176475350" and your image appears on the forums as expected. Not sure how it got there in the first place but there ya go.
