A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

New battery when i bought the bike so i can almost entily exclude that. My bike will run when i push start it from 1st gr. The dash lights ( gears and stand show.) blinkers work speraticly/ sometimes. Will not charge( or hold charge) while running even after a long trip. Please advise.

Could be about a million things... post a "hello" in the introduction section and basscliff will drop a ton of info on you. It will get you started! Good luck, Paul

thanks Tom, those files are huge though!! ill dig through them once my computer downloads them lols.

alright, stator is shot, riding my bike home from church and typical alternator response with the throttle. it died like it wasn't getting gas and electrical went out. soooo. second thing I took my stator cover off and it was covered in oil, is that normal? regardless I ordered a new one. The gasket on the bikes stator cover was shot so I guess ill need a new one of those, any tips would be great!!!

How did you figure that out?

Yes that is what keeps the stator cool

figured it out the hard way, I had to walk it back to my house, no....do you think its something else? im pretty positive its a bad stator.

Don't be "pretty positive" ,be absolutely sure - do posplayr's test links.

Have you been through ALL the wiring including the headlight bucket, wiring harness and grounds yet? Pull apart, clean and re-grease all connectors on the bike, checking them all for signs of heat buildup or bad connections.

IMHO until you verify your wiring is good you will not be able to test the system properly and depend on the results. If the bike is new to you I would guess the PO never cleaned any connections.

There is nothing wrong with cleaning the harness and connections; in fact it is strongly recommended if not required maintenance. However much of the charging system tests are designed to measure harness connection problems specifically those between R/R and battery.

Don't assume that it's the stator. On my GS850 it was the Rectifier/Regulator that was shot. The stator was putting out a solid 80v AC on each leg and ohmed out correctly. Output from the R/R was 0V and failed one of the diode checks. Conclusion... Never skip the diagnostics part unless you just like throwing $$$ into an empty pit.
