    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Where can I find information on how much amps the stator will output (max?).

I've looked in several service manuals but all they say is voltage.

I have an '83 GR650. I've referenced that the same stator fits a Kawa ZR-7 and info on that bike is 22 amps which gives 308 watts at 14v. Would it be a coorect assumption that it would be the same for the Suzuki?

Amps where? Ac or DC . Is ac per leg?


Also you might consider that it is not the stator that limits the current; it is the rotor. At a high enough rpm you saturate the magnets and no more power can be produced.

you basic quest for compatability is largely just mechanical fit.

What I am trying to find out is how many watts/ much power can the charging system produce. I'm considering adding/changing some of the electrical stuff and I'd like to know what the baseline power is.

On a GS or Kawa ZR-7?

The GS has about a 220watt capacity.

Your typical load is 11 amps for lights/ignition and (14 amp-hr battery) 3-4 amps for charging. (14-15 amps total above 3000 rpm).

Apparently you can add more load up to about 18-20 amps if your are at sufficient RPM . At idle you will only generate 11 amps total.

IIRC adding 50-80 watts for a heater once underway is OK.

Thanks. That is what I'm looking for. It'd be nice to get some actual specs, but that is good enough.
As noted in my 1st post, I have a '83 GR650.
 
Sorry did not know what a gr650 was. Don't know how close that is to most GSs. Check the factory manual for power rating; that is all that is given for the GS, the test of the numbers I quoted ars from measurements of a gs1100.
 
Sorry, my bad. It has a 2 cylinder engine. It shares most of the electrics as the GS line of similar size and year, and has the same issues. Thanks again for your help.
