    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Stator wires.... all white??

So Im 99% done with a whole new wiring harness for my 82 gs650, and have reached an issue, all three wires coming from the engine are white? what can I do with my multimeter to determine where to put them on my regulator/rectifier?
 
All white, all yellow, all purple with silver stars...that should not matter. All three wires from the stator are equivalent. I'm curious as to what is going on there, because the stock stator would not have had three white wires.
 
It really doesn't matter. Just connect each one of the stator wires to the three regulator-rectifier (R-R) wires that are white with blue stripe, white with red stripe and solid yellow. They're all the same. Suzuki was (is?) the only manufacturer that color coded the stator and R-R wires. Why? They must of had some reason but who knows what it was. On Honda's, Kawasaki's and Yamaha's the three wires are all the same color.

One note from experience, there is a lot of power flowing thru those three wires. Each phase of the stator is putting out 60vac and I can't remember how many amps. My original 5-blade connector overheated and fused together so I couldn't get it apart. Obviously there was a bit too much resistance there that caused it to overheat. I replaced the 5-blade connector with crimp connectors and one of those overheated as well. Finally I followed some advise I found on this site and soldered the connections and have not had a problem since. If I have to replace the stator or R-R it will be more work cutting and resoldering, but it makes for a solid connection that doesn't overheat.

about 5 amps RMS through each leg for a total of about 15 amps out of the R/R
 
Thanks guys, yeah I realized the high voltage when I crudely tried to zap myself to know if I had any current. I will hook it up tomarow.
