    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Anyone have any experience mounting a steering a stabilizer on their GS.

I am looking at one of the exterior shock looking ones.

Any feed back experiences would be helpfull.

If you have an 83 1100E frame there is a bung that the H2 Kawi type mounts right to. You would just need to get the bracket that clamps to the fork tube & it's a bolt on. Pingel & PMFR have the fork bracket you need. Ray.
 
Chances are that if youre riding an old GS in a manner that would justify a steering stabilizer you should go out and get a GSXR. An up grade in tires and suspension will enhance your ride much more than a stabilizer will. If youre contemplating one because of a steering issue I would address that problem before I wasted money on a bandaide fix (steering head bearings). If you have already gone out and spent thousands of dollars and built the ultimate street fighter then yes, whats a couple hundred more dollars. Just my $.02
 
My bike is a basically stock 81 GS750.
Kerker pipe, pods, and jetting.
Runs good nothing special.
I dont ride very aggressive I like a little twist of the throttle here and there nothing to extreme on a 27 year old bike.

The reason for wanting a steering stabilizer is the other day a lady pulled out in front of me.
I saw it coming in time and had time to react but in 4th gear under acceleration and then rapid deaccelaration the bike got sloppy and started to do the quick mini S swerves (sorry best I can describe it).
It just seems like the steering was way to sloppy.
Got home a little shaky and little ****ed check everything out.
Everything is tight and as should be (could use a little fluid in the front forks) no slop nothing loose.
On average everyday riding it fine its just that one time I need the bike to hold together and it gets sloppy. Its was a real pain in the ass keeping it up and under control.

I know its an old bike just looking for a little help / bandaid.
 
my gs1000 has longer forks, a smaller front wheel a slightly larger rake on the steering and a 6" stretch on the swing arm in drag race mode. Every bearing,seal,bush etc on the bike is new but boy i need a damper! hard acceleration in a straight line with the wheel right back or fast cornering on the street with the shorter wheel base it helps! if you are sure your bike is sound in the mechanical department and you still want one then hell mate go for it.

if they are no good then why do they fit them to brand new bikes as standard,wsbk bikes and most other race bike classes?

get an adjustable one so a quick pop to the shops you can back it right off. a good weekend thrash through the twisties you can ramp it up. you will notice a difference!
