A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

I have a Vance&Hines 4 into 1 on my bike. It doesn't fit correctly. Looks OK, but rubs on turns. Questions are, what years, models, ect. of stock pipes can I look for? Shouldn't one off a 1000 of some sort flow sufficiently?

There are at least several thread on the forum where there is some discussion on what pipes fit different bikes.

I know on my "L", the exhausts are shorter and different than my "C". What part rubs on the turns?

Rick

From the little picture, it looks like you have a V&H Sidewinder. It's designed for straight line racing. Most other 4 into 1 pipes will give you plenty of cornering clearence but may drag on large speed bumps. Good stock pipes for the 78 thru 80 chain drive 1000's (non "L") may be a bugger to find. Just my opinion

They'll be damn near impossible to find actually. I suggest getting the CORRECT Vance and Hines exhaust..not that straightliner piece of junk.

Can you post a bigger picture of the bike?

A couple of different angles would help, but yeah, it sounds like you have the drag race special version of their pipe.

.

I am in need of a sidewinder header and I have a V&H header to trade. It is off of an 831100E though.
Well gang, will it fit?

I can try to post bigger picture. Yes, if it will work, I'd be interested in a trade

Yah...will fit just fine. Except for maybe the rear mount flange, but that can be easily overcome.

ANDDDD actually, if you have problems figuring out the rear mount, I have a meg laying about FROM a 750 VH pipe. Its got some dings in the backside, but the chrome looks good. I would be happy to swap you out, as i can always use 1100 stuff too..

I dont think so without some modification. The rear peg brackets were changed pretty significantly from the 70s era bikes to the 80s, and thats where the rear hanger mounts. It could be MADE to work, but most of the 80s bikes frames are also just a touch longer. I actually HAVE a 79 750. It has the stock pipes on it. they're not in all that great of shape, but they're useable. Hell they worked all the way thru the Red River Rally last year... If ya want, c'mon out, poke around, Just about anything on that bike is for sale. Its just a donar for other projects. It even has a title! Ive got other stuff too, some Jardine slipon megs that might work, SUPER nice shape. All for sale...

It turns out it is a Yosh header. I have to get up to Tehachapi to get a pic. Find a good can it will make you a good exhaust system. I'll call my friend and see if I can get him to send me a pic.

I have a good can, depending on how large the midpipe is. It wouldnt be Yosh, but the can isnt as important as the header...
