A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Stock Performance chart???

mvalenti

Forum Mentor
Looking for a stock performance chart that shows top speed per gear, 1980 GS850... Anyone know of one that exists?

You get about 14 mph per 1000 rpm in top gear.

With a redline of 9000, you have a THEORETICAL top speed of 126 mph.

Your actual top speed will likely be less, probably more like 110-115.

.

Thanks Steve, Unfortunately, I do not have a tach. :( I was looking for something that used to get published in the old Cycle World magazines with the redline speed per gear. I looked down after pulling away strong from a stop and coming out of second I was at about 43mph, around 54 coming out of third (still pulling hard). I slowed back to 45 as it was the posted speed.. ;)

OK, I still have the test that included the '79 850, so I will try to find it and scan it this evening.

It was the "Shaft-Drive Shootout", I think it was the June, 1979 issue of Cycle magazine.

EDIT: Oops, it was Motorcyclist, not Cycle.

Shweet! I just saw a sheet on the gs650G 81', and 1st 46mph, 2nd 67mph, 3rd 86mph, 4th 106mph, 5th 123mph. I assume this is theoretical @ redline.

There's a lot of hills in Boston, with a following wind I could see you braking out of the theoretical, possibly moving into the astrophysical. Try Heartbreak hill when they aren't running

Those may be correct, but I see in your post that they are for a SIX fifty, not an EIGHT fifty. :-k

Regardless, they are remarkably similar.

Anyway, here is the page that lists the speeds in the test I mentioned earlier. Because this was a comparison test, not an individual bike evaluation, they did not get as detailed with all the graphs like you mentioned, they just listed the numbers.
