A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I have read and search this site to get questions answered, but now may be a little  ....
Is it OK on an 82 GS 1100G with the STOCK OEM R/R to :
run the 3 stator wires directly to the R/R......
Red to fused Battery and......................................
a Good ground to the Neg post of battery......

Will there be a problem if I DO NOT use the stock wire from the stator that runs up to the headlight and back again... - ( one of the third stator wires) ?
Thanks again for any assistance

i THINK you may have a problem with overcharging when the headlight is not in use if you have all three wires run directly to the rr

(but if you use your headlight most of the time then i think you should be fine)

By 1982, none of the U.S. bikes had a headlight switch, not sure about Canadian bikes. There will be no problem at all if you choose to bypass that extra wire. However, as psyguy mentioned, If you have a headlight switch on your bike, you do want to make sure that your headlight is ON most of the time.

Yes.. this bike does not have a headlight switch..... headlight is always on....so I will bypass the extra wire ......my trouble is wondering why it was put there if it is not needed.........

are you sure the wire is there? the GK harness should not have it as the GK did not come out till after the laws changed. my 1000G does not have the extra wire, and the 1000G came out for 1980. the 850G does have the wire loop to the switch because it was introduced for 1979 just before the light law.

I had a 81 GS250 that actually had the headlight off switch and it worked.

Suzuki just changed the plug from the left switch pod to have a short loop as they for some odd reason didn't want to do a relatively simple sounding change to the main harness. on the bikes that use a harness first designed prior to 1980.

production cost cutting... :D

Leon, But they still did, had one leg of stator wired up to a connector and just jumpered over and back to R/R. Just verified on my 82 GK schematic. Quess they still didnt update the design of the main harness even in 82. I wonder if maybe eurpopean models still had the headlight on-off switch.
