Hello all, i have a quick question about my carbs.

As stated I did a high rpm tune on my carbs this past weekend ( cant rember if thats what it is called or not). I have a stock 1982 GS850G, carbs have been fully cleaned as per Basscliff's instructions. It was running rough before i tuned it and now it is running much better, but my question is this. When i was adjusting the Air Fuel mixture screw on the carbs, i was only getting a reaction out of one carb, the #4 carb to be specific (right hand side while sitting on the bike). When adjusting the #1 carb, no reaction from the engine at all, with little to no reaction from #2 and #3.

Is that normal, or should i have equal reaction from each carb to the engine?

Thanks

Hi,

Are the pilot screw tips broken? Do you have an airbox on the carbs?

(Looks like you spelled "results" wrong, got a couple of letters reversed.) ;)

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

It was a quick post sorry about the spelling.

I have not check the tips but I will tonight. I have a fully sealed stock air box.

Hi,

When you cleaned the carbs and took the pilot screws (sometimes called 'idle mixture screws') out, did they have nice pointy tips? If they have ever been screwed in too tightly then it's possible that the tips have broken off inside the carb body. It's just one thing to check.

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

Thanks eli, I will be doing that next.

I have yet to see if the tips are broken, but I was looking them up on the parts fiche and I can't find them. Does anyone have the part number just in case I need four new ones?

Ho boy. You might wanna sit down before you hear how much they are! I think I paid $34 per screw assembly when I last bought them.

Yeah, that is a bit expensive.

So I have a point of reference I looked at the ones from my second set of carbs. They all have a nice taper but seem flate on the tip, is that right or should they be pointy to the very end? I am having pic issues or I would post one of the four. I will keep working on it though.

Look fine to me... You have the other bits for them don't you... Spring, washer n o-ring?

Hi,

Look fine to me... You have the other bits for them don't you... Spring, washer n o-ring?

After viewing the picture at full resolution, they all do look very consistent. Aren't they supposed to be a little more pointed? Maybe not. Maybe it's just my head.

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

I do have the springs, washers, and o-rings. These are from my second set of carbs I have and wanted to know if all else fails I could swap them out. From what bellucci said about those being $34 a pop I wanted to make sure someone else got an eye on this set. I never knew gold could look like those!!

Thanks for all of your help with this by the way.

Just to be certain, you slide the spring onto the screw first, then the washer, and finally the little O-ring. Is that the way you were doing it? If the adjustment still doesn't make any difference, it pretty much has to be blocked passages.

That was going to be my next question. So if my screws are good (and not lose :p) I will ask what I should look into next. I am pretty busy the next few days but will post my result when I check the ones in the bike.

Ok, I pulled the screws from the bike. They look fine as far as the tips are concerned, the tips are black but I knew I was running rich anyway. Any thoughts on where I should look now?
