    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Any tips for getting the head studs out?

whats the easiest / next steps to pulling this down to its component parts?

Split the cases at this point? Take the engine out and turn it upside down? Pull the clutch out?

Haven't had a chance to have a study of the manual as yet :)

 
I've double nutted the studs before to get them out. No real tips from me on tearing the bottom end apart other than keep taking out bolts till it falls apart.
 
Haha that was basically my route...

Tried a a double nut - guess I just need more leverage. It is a right hand thread right??

get as low as possible on the stud without hitting the base gasket area.
i have twisted factory studs in half....go to the lowest point on the stud with the tool and heat the case area up as you remove each one.
this can be easy or it can be a complete disaster....i have had both :0
 
Why do you need to remove the studs ? Everything up to blasting and painting can be done with them in place.

Only reason i can imagine is to machine the case for bigger barrels.....
 
I want shot of this one... Just part of the disassembly process but I guess I can leave them there. Not sure if cases have any value to anyone or if I'll end up trashing them for scrap.

Double nut, but the essential ingredient is to get some heat in there -- the studs seem to be held in with some sort of thread locking compound you have to soften.
 
I have a stud puller you can borrow Dan. it scars up the stud though. Double nut usually works, but not always. It's possible to damage the threads that way.
 
Thanks Ed. Mostly I'm just going for getting the thing apart & then will perhaps put on Ebay for a buck & see what happens.. hate to trash parts that could be used! :)
 
Stillson wrench low on the non-threaded part of the stud. Grips tighter as you apply torque.
 
clean the grease from the C/S area there is a hidden nut on a 6mm stud that is usually buried in grime, it keeps the clamshell from splitting.
