DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Well, sort of...the top 2 turn loose and off, but the bottom turns loose, though not off.

What would be the best way to get it off?

I wonder if the stud is loose or the thread is tripped.

Thanx!

The stud is stripped.

They all do that -- this happens to every GS sooner or later. You'll need to replace the stud.

To remove the old one, you need to pry outwards while turning the nut. The nut may be able to catch some of the good threads further up and come off, or it may jam and remove the stud. Either is OK, since you have to replace the stud anyway.

Once the nut is off, grab the stud with a set of Vice-Grips and unscrew it from the block.

You can either get new studs from Suzuki, or make your own with 6mm threaded rod. It's OK to substitute bolts temporarily if you can't get studs right away. Just be aware that the threads in the engine will get loose and strip out after a few more oil changes -- there's a very good reason Suzuki used studs here.

Thank you! I will give it a try!

It is actually for the 450 we bought in the week.
Since it is leaking oil already, I decided to drain it and keep my floor clean! :p

Yes on getting a flat tip behind the nut and prying as you loosen the nut. If there isnt any room, then some needle nosed vice grips and the pull as you twist method wll work.

To save the time of ordering a OEM one..go to the auto parts store with the stud and get a metric threaded exhaust flange stud. We did this same proceedure on my nephews 1100

You can also just get a long bolt of the same threads and cut it off and make your own stud.

Double nut the new stud to insert it into the block.

Chuck, how exactly does the reinsertion work?

Thanx for the help guys!

I use 2 regular 10MM nuts and double nut it..jam them together snuggly.

Then finger start it in the hole (to be sure its not cross threaded ) and use a socket to tighten it in. Use semi permanent loctite.

You can take a wire and put down the hole and mark how dee it is and transfer that depth onto the new stud to be sure its in all the way...or use the old stud and make a sharpy mark on the new one.

I bought three studs and acorn nuts from Suzuki South in Wynberg a while back. I cannot remember if they had them in stock or had to order them. Good luck!
