A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Stupid Headlight Questions

My nephew blew the headlight in the '79 850G I sold him. It has a sealed beam. My '80 GS1000G got a cracked headlight lense from road debris.

First, is it a 7" head light? (I'm away from my bikes and can't check them). Second, is there anything different between an H4 set up and the sealed beam on my nephews bike? The parts Fisch I was looking at at Bike Bandit looked like the bezel and or inner ring may be different. Is the plug the same?

Where can I buy decent parts to repair these bikes?

For starters, I would post this in the wanted parts section of the forum. I have aquired many parts that way for very reasonable prices.

The H4 headlight is a perfect swap for a sealed beam. you should be able to find a used 7" headlight capsule (glass body and lens) in the parts for sale, or on e-bay. you will need the capsule, H4 bulb and the rubber boot the goes over the bulb to keep out water. you might also use one of the aftermarket sealed beam to H4 conversion kits.

The '79 and '80 GS850G's are 7" as is the '80 GS1000G.

Rustybronco set me up with my H4 conversion on my '79. It is 7 inches. Works nice too, Thanks Dale!

I think they might be an 8" unit... my GS1000G one is.

Dan :)
Then you got lucky Danny boy...Someone hooked you up, or you did yourself.

THE ONLY GS's with the coveted 8inch freight train headlamp are the 82-831100E, The 84?85? GS700/750E and the 1150s... Everything else is 7 inches.. REMEMBER on the 8" headlamp..THE GLASS is 8" across, not the whole unit...
