Has anyone ever run a super short exhaust like dual 2>1's dumped right after the rear pegs? I'm wondering what it would do to sound/asthetics/performance to have a really short exhaust.

i think the shorter exhaust will produce less back pressure. im guessing it will push the power band higher in the rpm scale-- im not sure any more--i used to trim straight pipes to tune the exhaust . noisy as heck.. on a 4 cylinder its an annoyang sound to me. I just opened the megs on my 6 cylinder Kaw. Idle is not as smooth. Seems a bit lean on warm ups. nise is a bit irritating and i love the open meg on my gs1100e.

Im just rambling in an attempt to recall something of value.

Rambling is good. To get some good info out of my dad, I have to listen to all kinds of ****, lol. So the sound your 1100E makes is nice with short pipes? I have some Sportster pipes on my 1100GK and it's REAL quiet. I thought if the 750 with a big bore kit was anything like the 1100 it would sound real cool with the pipes short.

IMO, depends what sound your going for. For the more crotchrocket sound, go for a 4 into 1, with a sport bike can(glasspack) on it. Personally, I really really like the sound of my bike, it sounds almost harley like at idle through about 3-4 grand, from then up it just completely screams. I have a 82 gs850, its basically stock 4 into 2, with the crossover pipe, but then I chopped off the mufflers and put dual long megaphone scilencers I got off ebay, gutted them, and made it into a straight through glasspack style muffler. The total cost was like $100 and I get complements all the time from all sorts of riders. Heres a pic to give you an idea.-darren

I'm looking for more asthetics than anything. I want it short and relatively quiet. Maybe I can put a stunt can on it.

i am waiting on shorting mine till i do a little riding, since i plan on taking this on some miles i would prefer the exhaust isn't shouting in my ears for 300+ miles......

Well, I have two GS's so I'm not worried about it. This one is more of a show piece. I'll ride my other bikes more. That's a regular Yosh system that you're gonna cut down? Is that where these people are getting shorty exhausts? Where do these little bitty cans come from? I've done a hundred google seaarches tonight and can't find ****, lol.

i have been looking for one all over, but cant find one. let me know if you find a place to get them. i just want a slip on

I have a 4-2-1 into al megaphone w/a little bit of glass around the center baffle. Sounds great.

Have you thought about getting a muffler off a Buell or the new Ninja 650R?

On my 550 I've got a 4->1 with a short can system, looks exactly like that picture with the Yosh bike.

I think the baffle is empty, because its LOUD. I mean... loud loud loud loud loud.

But it sounds soooo nice, not a electric drill sound like modern sport bikes, not a harley sound, but more like a rally car sound. And when it revvs down it gargles so nicely, damn I love it. But on the highway its too loud even at 6K RPM, it hurts my ears after a while with ear plugs in it...

I got another shorty-like system comin in, brand new Superflow 4->1 system... we will see what it's like :)

I just sold a GS500 with a D&D system on it. I don't know what it is about the 500's but they are obnoxiously loud. It was so loud that when a friend was riding right in front of me wrapped out, when I'd wrap my full systemed CBR out to pass him, I couldn't hear my bike. I have a Two Bros system on mine that's pretty dang loud too.

were did you get the can? thanks
ps would you be willing to sell your old can

take a look at the super trap website, you can order megaphone/can the diamter you need to fit your pipe and they also have a couple lengths too.

go luck finding a can to fit a 2.5 mid pipe, i got mine by luck from a guy at a bike shop that found it at a swap meet and it was painted nasty black with no baffel so i had to make one from a old kerker baffel i had.

Take a look at the Yamaha R1 stock 4 into 1 cans. The 2001 and earlier will marry up at the end of the Yosh and Super Trap headers (same diameter). You may have to remove a little bit of the gasket. I've seen several people take the R1 cans and shorten them to get the effect your looking for. Loud pipes aren't my cup of tea. I like light and stealthy, no need to notify anyone in blue I'm approaching at light speed.

I'm putting an R1 stock carbon end pipe and can on my 82 1100e. By the way if you check ebay you'll see the R1 croud selling these off at less than $50. If you
like the stainless look better look for the FZ1 stock cans. There long and large diameter which is how i plan to leave mine but there is no reason why you can't shorten them with a hack saw and a some rivits to re-locate the end cap.

I'm more looking for the smaller diameter can. I like the way it looks. I might look into the stock R6 can, or new GX'r can.
