Surprise Found in oil pan - Name this bolt

So I pulled my oil pan to fix the drain plug and check my oil pickup screen and to my surprise I find this bolt laying in the bottom of my pan.

I have no idea where or what the bolt was intended to secure. It still looks brand new and the threads are even sharp and not stretched. I know it is a factory Suzuki bolt because it has an s on the head.

Do you gurus have any input or idea what it is.

Kinda looks like one from the cam holders, but I think it's a bit long, could be from anywhere really. Guess the last guy in there left one behind and yet another example of why it's always good to clean out your oil pan

It looks like a case bolt. Is it chrome plated?

i think it's some kind of case bolt, pretty sure cam caps have a number on the head most important engine fasteners have numbered heads (I think?)

If there is a "9" on the head it's from a cam cap.

Mesure it, and go through the various part numbers in the engine diagrams until you find what it's used for.

I was gonna go with cam cover bolt also.

There are two 8mm bolts that hold the crankcase together on the inside of that pan, tip the bike over and have a look up, aft of the crankshaft

Its a m6 x 1.00 (54.35 in length according to my caliper, so ill say 55) As soon as I can I plan on scouring the parts fiche. The 2 8mm bolts are in there, I have the center stand on some boards (2x4's), so I was able to peek in there and look around. Thank you for you input. : )

The bolt head looks exactly like a factory valve/cam cover bolt, and it is too long, you are right.

I think the factory engine assembly line supplied as "kits" with just enough parts and fasteners to put one motor together with QC checks before they were buttoned up. While the Japanese are human, its unlikely an errant bolt was left in the motor. Much more likely that one fell down the "hell-hole" during service.

Agreed... I'm the example. lol. I would have never imagined it was in there, this is the start of my third season of riding this bike and it does not make any abnormal noise or rattling.

Have a look at your cam caps - if there's a bolt there without the 9 on the head, there's your answer...
