    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Suspected Carb problems with '81 gs450s, suggestions

Hi, I am having a problem with this bike that inherited,

The bike has had new piston and rings about a year back but didn't get much use, acquired the bike about 3 weeks ago.
The bike wouldn't idle below 3,500 - 4,000, and was running rough seemed to run on one cylinder for a lot of the time, changing plugs didn't do anything, the left hand plug (as seated on the bike) gets wet with gas,

I thought that it may be the needle and seat / float height, so replace the needle and seat (was considerable worn) and checked the float height ( within specs), bike ran pretty good for aprox 100km.

had a look at it the next day, Had fuel pumping from the left hand exhaust, checked float height again, and adjusted it to reduce the fuel level, didn't fix problem.

I have read the posts to xxwaldoxx ('83 450L problem carbs) and checked the suggested fixes, to no-avail,

Any Suggestions would be much apreciated
 
You may have a combination of problem's.
Easy to check the spark on the left hand cylinder, pull the plug ,earth the body to the head and look for a nice blue spark, if you dont get one try swaping pug cap's.
As for the carby's, first make shure the float hight is correct as per the manual.
Re inspect needle and seat.
When the fuel was coming out of the exaust ,you did not mention if the bike was running or not!
Did you do a full clean up of the carb's?
 
The float itself may be leaking. Remove it and shake it around near your ear. Hear any liquid sloshing around in there? If yes, your float is toast - been there, done that.
 
Sorry guys, forgot to mention that the bike was running when the fuel was pouring out of the exhaust,

I did check the plugs for sparks, nice and blue,

checked the float height it was within specs from haynes manual, increased height of float to see if that made a diference, still ran bad with fuel coming out of exhaust,

The needle and seat was replaced at the start of the problem with a new set, old one was worn a bit, but the new needle and seat didn't make a difference,

Fully stripped the carbs and got at them with carb cleaner, removed a deposit of **** out of the choke assembly, didn't find any worn or damaged parts, re assembled.
I have lost the fuel out of the exhaust, but it still runs rough, and the plug still gets wet

I was thinking trying a hotter plug on the left side????
 
A hotter plug wont help,must still be the carby's, have you set your idle mix ,balanced the carb's? You wont need any special equipment to balance a twin.
