swapping mag wheels for spokes 77 gs750

Hi all,

I have searched and searched but can't find a definitive answer for swapping the mag wheels over to spokes. I have dual front discs and disc rear.

What wheels/hubs can I use and what has to be done to make them fit?

Also does anyone know where to sourse them as they seem pretty scarce! I am in England by the way.

Spoke rims will fit right on your bike. The front wheel will even have the hole in the rim for your disc on the right side as well, simple bolt on. Just make sure the new rims are the same size as your old ones. Where to find them? probably you best bet is here, put a thread up in the parts wanted section, other than that keep an eye open on eBay.

Looking good! What wheels did you use? Can they be from a gs 550 gs 1000 etc or do they have to be from a gs750?

Ditto. What's that front wheel with the dual discs from? I think I'd rather go wires than inverted fork.

I put spokes on my 1980 gs750 from a 78 750. With dual disks. Fits with no issues

'77-79 750 had chrome steel wheels and 78 1000 had polished alloy.

I fitted 77 750 spoke wheels to a 78 550, only change is rear wheel bearings and using smaller 550 disc/rotor. 550 rear spindle is smaller than750/1000, outer bearing size is the same.

Any disc brake GS front wheel will swap, but the small twins 450 & under have a skinny front 18" rim that takes a narrow tire.
On the rear, you are looking exclusively for a 77-79 GS750 or 78-79 GS1000 wire spoke disc brake wheel. 550 uses a smaller 17mm rear axle but can be converted to 20mm with bearing/spacer swaps if it is a 78-79 550 disc brake rear, but the 550 sprocket carrier will not work with your engine's chain line.

The sprocket carrier assembly shows a different part number so you may need to source the 750/1000 wire spoke sprocket carrier as well. I almost had a rusted mag wheel axle freed up to compare the mag vs wire spoke carriers on 750/1000 wheels but life happens frequently, and I get pulled away from bike projects/riding.

The axle spacers vary between different bikes and different forks, FYI... Perhaps even the speedo drive widths.

I have a good set of stock ?78 GS1000 wheels with the alloy rims, 19? front and 18? rear. I think it was GS1000C model they came off of. Comes with the rear axle, spacers and caliper hanger. I use this set up to swap the GT750 Water Buffalo wire wheels over to a disc brake rear and keep the wire wheel look.
These should be a straight bolt on for either the GS750 or 1000 mag wheels.
I can deliver these to the Barber Vintage swap meet in October.

I call 2nd dibs on those GS1000C wire wheels! I have a GS1000C missing the original wheels... It would be great to pick up a stock set. I don't think I will be at Barber due to a whitewater raft 4 day wedding trip and mountain wedding in Colorado, but if I am, I will be riding from 620 miles there from Ohio, but my friends take a box truck and trailer down there every year and could bring them back.
I could offer up a set of GS750 77-79 wire spoke disc brake wheels to the original poster if the original poster declines the 1000 wheels.. Same wheels, just different rims for the 750 model vs the 1000, but same spokes, hub, brake rotor bolt pattern, everything else is the same.
