I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

OK, from what I've heard, the GS750, 1000, and 1100 swingarms all interchange.. That's not to say the legnth is different though... Is the a difference in the legnth of these arms? Will they in fact interchange with each other? Thanks

I can't say for all combinations, but I just installed a '82 GS1100E aluminum swingarm in my '81 GS750. I believe that the frames for the 80-82 GS750E and the 80-82 GS1100E are fairly similar.

The only problem was that the diameter of the pivot bolts wasn't the same and the pivot bolts were different lengths. The pivot bolt for the 750 is smaller than the 1100 bolt. The 1100 bolt is shorter than the 750 bolt. The bearing/bushing assemblies are not interchangable. I had purchased new bushings and bearings for the 1100 swingarm, prior to discovering this discrepancy.

I had a bushing made that was a press fit into the new 1100 bushings so I could use the 750 pivot bolt. I could have had a whole new bushing made but since I already had paid for a new one, I decided to utilize it. It also made the bushing I did have made, cheaper. Another option is to have a solid bronze bushing made to replace the needle bearing/bushing assembly. I believe that this was a fairly common mod for high HP bikes, back in the day.

I could have modified the frame to use the 1100 pivot bolt, but I then would have had to drill out the mounting plate and modify the footpeg brackets so the shorter 1100 bolt would work. The thought of trying to drill a precision hole in the frame did not appeal to me.

I have finished the swap and everything else fit fine and looks factory installed. Get the chaingard off the 1100, because the 750 one will not bolt up to the new swingarm.

Now, on to the swap of the '82 GS1100E front forks 8O

Done the same swap myself; they're pretty much the same dimensionally, but the aluminum box swingarm from the 1100 is much stronger than the tube steel 750 and 1000 pieces. Plus aluminum looks good when polished up. :)

I'm in the process of doing the same thing to my 82 750E. I'm having a machinest turn a bushing to sleeve down the alum. swingarm to take the 750's bearings and spacers. He told me he'd do it for a case of Coors light. Yee-haw.

Maybe a old thread but is the '82 GS1100E swingarm the same length as the 750?
