    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Switchgear?

What does everybody do to restore/replace their switchgear? My 1100E looks like it lived its entire life outside before I got it and all the plastic is an unpleasant shade of grey and the black coating on the bars has been bleached off by UV.

I would like to use new switchgear from a current sportbike (GSXR, of course); it looks better, has new electricals in it and push to cancel turn signals. But I am unexcited about splicing and dicing my wiring loom to mate up to an unknown switch setup.

Any ideas, help, experiences welcome.

I replaced on on my GS300L from a late model GSXR (cause it was cheap on ebay) and I cut the old plug off the bad switch .. and the new plug off the new switch. Doing that the rest of the wire harness was left intact.

I bought new standard ones cause I'm weird like that.Cheers,Simon.:D

Same here. Also, you can disassemble all of the switches (carefully) and clean all of the contacts. Now, my only issue is that I ditched the self canceling turn signal circuit but I still have the switch. So I have to hold it until I complete a turn.
 
I was able to mount early '90's GSXR switches on my 1100 with minimal fuss. Push to cancel turn signals are far safer than hunting around for the off position while riding in traffic. As for the right hand switch, the GSXR throttle cable is smaller than the GS so I drilled it out and tried to tap a new set of threads. It didn't go so well and I now use siclicone to hold the throttle cable in place. It works but in retrospect I would have been better off swapping throttle cables.
