A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

i was missing the tach drive gear on my bike when i purchased it. 82 gs 1100g. i see a number of gears for sale on ebay but none listed for my bike. many of them look the same. does anyone know where i can find out about parts cross referance. will for instance a gear from a 82 - 850 or an e model be the same?

Go to the dealer. Really really bad things will happen if you put the wrong gear in there.

How much are you seeing them for on eBay? :-k

New ones, which you know will be correct, are only $23-25, depending on where you get it.

Part #26431-45002 from any of the vendors listed on BassCliff's site.

.

on e bay around $20.00 - $50.00 for the complete assembly.some of the sites i checked out a new gear alone for $65.00 then the rest of the asembly the sleeve o rings etc. would wind up costing me about $100.00. if i can pick up a new one for 25 - 35 that is a no brainer. i will check out basscliffs site. thanks for the info.

just checked out a few of the online parts sites. i can buy everything new for around $45.00. problem solved! thanks

The same part number gear was used on the 450/750/850/1000/1100G. There was a change in the "sleeve" part (the small piece that holds the gear), but they are compatible either way.

I think my spares box has one of these things so let me know if you still need one. I'll sell it for way less than $45.

There are several shady characters on fleaBay selling OEM parts at a large markup.

For example, you can order OEM battery hold-down bands for about $2, and one joker's been selling them on fleaBay for $10 or more for several years. Same with many other "NOS" (New Old Stock) parts you see on eBay -- most of it is stuff you can still order.

You also see a lot of people flogging GS parts who just list every model they can think of, leading to the phenomenon of the miracle rear wheel that fits "GS550 650 700 750 850 1000 1100"

eBay is an absolute last resort, and you had better do your research before getting suckered by one of these yeahoos.
