DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I'm looking to delete my speedo and tach cluster from the bike, and was thinking that the best option would be just use a short bolt in the head, in place of the tachometer cable.

Is this a viable option, and if so does anyone know what the thread pitch and diameter I'll need for the bolt? If this isn't an option, do I have any choices besides just cutting the cable? I'd rather not damage anything... but if I have to, at least it's just an old tach cable :)

I'm sure some of you might look down on me trying to remove the tach, but once I get my carbs sync'd I really won't have much use for the tach anyway. I rarely rev past 7k and have gotten pretty good at shifting by ear.

You just need something to stop muck getting in there - you won't leak oil. You could glue a penny over the over the drive or anything like that.

Look up this little part .. 26442-45000.

There is also a seal to buy.

My little GS300L has this plug were a tach cable would be.

You can replace the tach drive in most GS models with the block-off plug Suzuki used in later (electronic tach) models. Bike Bandit part nos. 1064353 (490253-001) for the plug and 1064362 (490260-001) for the seal band (or use the band from your existing tach drive). Less than $15. These parts are listed for the 1982 GS1100S, GS300 and others.

Awesome. Thanks for the info everyone! I'll order everything this week. I'll definitely order the seal too since it's leaking pretty good right now. Previous owner was a failure at... Everything :(

For the speedo, can I just remove the cable or do I need to plug that hole too?

You don't have to plug it, but I put a 25-cent hardware store plastic hole plug in mine to keep dirt out, in case I (or a subsequent owner) want to reinstall the clocks or some other mechanical speedo.

Thanks everyone. I just ordered the tach plug and seal, and I'll swing by Home Depot to grab a plug for the speedo. I've also got a new chain, carb o-rings, chain lube, and both sprockets on order. I dropped the rear sprocket to a 48. Hopefully this weekend I'll be able to rebuild my carbs, replace the chain/sprockets, and install my new intake o-rings that've been in my closet for 2 weeks. After all that's done, next thing on the list is valve clearances, then hopefully I can get this thing through emissions!
