If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

I'm looking fo some tach help? I found quite a few people looking for the ratios as they replace their tachometers. I searched the forum and all the answers that I could find were specific to a different bike than mine and/or people would post something like...."I "think" that it is 1:1 or It's probably maybe something like 1:2....or gives some crazy instructions that a newbie like me can't follow....so....here's the dream.

This post, someone who knows 100%....the ratios for all GS models/years posts them below. Starting with mine ;-):D (1979 GS1000L)
Thanks in advance.

I had a similar experience recently. Tried to find speedo gear ratios for bikes, found loads of conflicting information.

Sorry, Im not much help.

You pull the points cover off; you find a wrench. You pull the tach cable off, turn the crank one revolution and you count the turns of the cable...

thanks but.....let me ask you this....

-The points cover is the circle metal plate on the side of the engine right?:-$
-The tach cable is going into the front of the engine on my bike and the screw that holds it there is leaking(I think) down the fron of the engine and is stripped...once I get that off, I can pull out the tach cable...when you say "count the turns of the cable", can you please explain.....like I said I'm a real newbie...thanks.

Sorry, but I missed your response until now.

To me it appears you want to know what the tach 'gear' ratio is; correct? The answer I gave you was to turn the engine over exactly one revolution, and measure (count) the number of turns the tach cable makes to one turn of the crankshaft. For example, if the tach cable turns 396 degrees with one turn of the crankshaft, the ratio is 1:1.1 . If the cable turns 432 degrees, the ratio is 1:1.2 ect.

If the question you need an answer to differs from my assumption, please offer a more concise explanation to what you are seeking.

Try and picture Yoda giving advice in a dark forest........Thanks, Give it a try I will. :D

Does this imply that I can reuse my GS1100 gauges if I get the proper speedo drive for the '91 GSXR front end I have? That would certainly lower the cost of a front end swap.

10 to 5

Well the worm gear on mine has 10 teeth
the cam gear has 5

I dunno but my hand are dirty now.

My tach cable is trashed. Anyone happen to know the ratio for a '79 GS550?

I am guessing 4:1 Pendulum, but I am not exactly sure. I can't find anything in the manual on it for my 78' Looking to get an aftermarket Tach to replace my huge non functioning stock one.

yes, it's 4:1. Old Yamahas are 5:1 , old Hondas are a bit of everything, and old Suzukis, as least GSs are 4:1.
