A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Got a 78 GS1000E with a skunk tank. Having problems finding one and the other 1000 and 850 tanks don't seem to fit. Got some leaks at the seam by the petcock and tried to soder and creme the inside to seal the problem up with no results. It still leaks. Now I don't have the best skills at welding or sodering so that is my first problem. But has anyone ever taken a tank apart, cleaned the insides, reassembled and re-welded the tank back together. Or how difficult would it be to do that.
Or should I try to remove the last creme reclean and try to have it welded from the outside again, then re-creme it again.

Yes..I had a tank cut sectioned and welded. What your needing isn't much more complicated. Find a GOOO motorcycle custom or repair shop The friend who did my tank has done repairs and custom tanks from old ones. The biggest concern was not blowing up the old tank while splitting it. You know the tank will have to be repainted after all done and said. You might try taking it to a radiator shop, have it boiled out. Use air pressure to test for leaks and maybe can be repaired without splitting the tank. I would try boiling it out and having leak fixed before splitting. Boiling it out will remove old tank coating

Find a rad shop that coats/seals tanks have it boiled and sealed. don't forget the bolts for the petcock have a sealing washer on them that may need replacement

Rad shop would be a good idea. If you have leaks, I'd cut it open and fix it right. However, if you don't have the experience or tools to do it, it could be costly for ya. If you consider 75 bucks reasonable, I'll do it for you. I'll cut it open from the bottom, clean it up, fix the leaks, hammer out any minor dents and weld it back up. You can see mine that I did here, http://www.thegsresources.com/_forum/showthread.php?t=147423&page=4
