Wow good progress buddy!

What colours / styling options you planning?

Where about's are you? We'll have to meet for a ride out this summer

Thanks mate, I got the battery box idea from your build.

I'm in Wimbledon so a ride out could definitely be on the cards (if i get this thing done by then) frame, wheels and engine will be black, not sure on the tank and tail, I will probably have a few goes with a rattle can to choose colours then strip it back and have it properly done. I am thinking of metallic root-beer kandy, but we'll see.

I the GS is not done by the time summer rolls on I have this as a backup...

Sweet, I'm about 5 miles from Wimbledon... I'm sure you'll have the GS ready for the summer, good progress so far!

Just 5 miles hey, I might just give you a shout when I start pulling this engine apart (or putting it back together) I've never tried it before and it looks like you've had some practice. Seriously thou a ride out will be cool.

Unhappy camper

Did some anti-rust coating on the stands, Sebastian does not approve of his radiator bed, and the radiator being used as a drying rack!

I found this thing in my bucket of bits, anyone know what it is? I am referring to the black metal thing, the phone I recognise.

10 points to whoever gets it first, I think it came off when I removed the rear wheel / swing arm. A spacer on an engine mount bolt perhaps?

I couldn't get hold of the jet kit I wanted so I used D-Mac's thread as a guide and bought some 155 jets and drilled the slides, ...
Even with pods and a pipe, I don't think that your 550 is going to take kindly to that kind of jetting.

Considering that the stock jets were 92.5, you would probably need something in the 110-115 range. :o

.

Thanks guys, it is going to be a while before that gets used again.

I made some great progress this weekend, frame, handlebars, rearsets, fork legs, master cylinders and brake and clutch levers all refurbished so some assembly to start soon.

Thanks Steve, this is a big learning curve. We have to start somewhere I suppose. I'll get some of those to try.

Fork legs painted.

Actually a lot of stuff painted, my garage is one big drying rack, but at 2degrees Celsius, it is not happening quickly

Another quick question for any readers, anyone know what size the brake bleed nipples are?

The paint was almost dry in the last pic and it shows the final colour pretty well. I'm lovin' it.

You have to love my paint booth though.

Be carefull about painting in such a low temperature it could cause the paint not to stick very well, and could end up peeling off.....

Get some high power work lights in there or a heater of some sort and get the place warmed up until the paint has a chance to cure properly......

.

Thanks, but I have no power out there. I generally heat the metal bits and the paint up upstairs in my flat then head downstairs with the lot to do the painting, I am tired of getting overspray all over the kitchen :). Curing time is reduced though. Will definitely heed your point, the last thing I want is peeling paint, I have no interest in redoing this.

That's pretty good progress!

I always feel like I accomplished more when doing the smaller refurb projects than the big stuff. I think mainly cause you would never see or know how much effort went into it.

Keep it up!

Thanks Wally
I would just feel a lot better if I was bolting the little things onto big things :)

With a little luck I'll get the wheels and suspension onto the frame this weekend. Then at least it will start to look like a bike rather than a bunch of bike bits.

i know how you feel mate, my fridge, freezer and oven have been several different colours over the years from overspray. looks quite pretty though...:)

The other issue is that paint fumes and my wife don't go together too well! This bike has already got me into a heap of trouble and I haven't even had it running yet!
