A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Couldn't get the Pics But Glad You came out Ok. It's always the same Story; They don't see you until Impact! :?

Glad to see you are not hurt. I guess it's time to start listing parts on Ebay.....

Matt

Dude that really sucks. I'm glad your ok. It's going to keep getting worse as there get to be more and more oldee drivers out there. and cell phones.....

I know you did a lot of work on tht bike , lots of posts. I hope you get a decent settlement out of her insurance.

Sorry to hear about the accident. Most important is that you're okay. This is just another example that you never know when it's going to happen. Even just a little trip around the neighborhood can be deadly. Kudos to you for wearing the right gear!

Joe

I take a lot of grief from co-workers for wearing leathers and gloves in July in a state that just recently abolished helmet laws.

Of course it is my ass not theirs on the bike so I do what I know is right. I totaled my first GS in 1987 the SAME way with the same results. Bruised hand and no other injuries because I had full leathers , even gloves, in Biloxi, Ms in August.

Those pictures sadly reminded me of my 82 450L that I lost.

Glad your OK. I had an old person who shouldn't be driving total my truck a few years ago. Funny how it takes something like this before they wise up and get off of the road. Did you think of buying a parts bike and returning this one too the road? It looked like a hard hit, but she looks like she took it well. From the first look it seems that the car got the worst of it.

Yesterday the wife stopped me from riding off without my helmet. What was I thinking? Sooooooo glad you are OK Brian  .

Why is it people, but mostly women, think that the second step in driving after inserting the ignition key is opening the cell phone for a chat?

I watched a young woman hold the cell phone in her left hand adjust the rear view mirror and begin brushing her hair with the right as she steered the car with her knees. Totally oblivious, to anything else.

Too bad about the GS.

Like all the others have said, glad you are ok...the bike is secondary to your life.

You can also look at it as another page in your bikes life, I mean, there are lots of parts around for these bikes and winter is coming. You just have to convince your wife about the project if that is even an option. :)

Again, glad you are ok.

I hate seeing these old bikes getting smashed up like that. But we put them at that risk when we ride them so it does happen. It's just good that you came out OK man. Kudos to you for being a safety gear user! Thanks for the testimony. Looks like there are a lot of really good parts left on that bike. Including the engine.

Wow, that is a familiar looking sight. My 750 didn't fair quite as well as yours, but OUCH!!

I think you said it all with this comment.

"Thanks everyone! Once again, proper gear has saved another life. I was only going about 3 miles away, some would say "its not that far, i dont need a lid", but as you can see, it doesnt matter where you are or how far youre going. Just goes to show that it doesnt matter how good of a rider you are, its everyone else you have to watch out for."

Heal up and ride on!!

Another great example that you should never leave home without your gear on, glad you're OK. $hit can happen in an instant and at any time. The only thing we have going for us is paying attention, knowing how to ride and dressing for the occasion because paying attention and knowing how to ride doesn't always work.

Wow. Really sorry about your wreck but overjoyed :D that you came through with so little damage. Let me add my congratualtions for your good sense to wear your gear. It's those spur of the moment rides where you are most likely to just wear whatever you have on. I'm not sure I would have been that wise when I was your age.

If it is only the forks, wheel and triple-tree that are damaged, finding parts and fixing it should be very doable. If the steering head/frame is cracked or bent, maybe not. It is hard to tell from the pictures. Of course the fluids on the ground are a concern, but sometimes that can happen just from the bike being on its side for a time.

I may know of a front end available here in Jax. I was going to switch my GK front end to a standard G one while having my GK crash of last year repaired, but then I found the parts to stick with stock. That front end I almost used is probably still at the shop where I had the work done. Let me know if you go the repair route and think you can use it.

If you decide to part it out, let me know that too. Maybe we can make a deal for the whole thing and I can drive my truck down. I am curious what the insurance company is going to offer you for your bike. I hope they don't try to limit it to blue book.

Also, don't sign any insurance releases for a while. Sometimes it takes a while for an injury, particularly a skeletal injury to become noticeable. Ask me how I know. Get everything checked out well by a doctor you trust.

Sucks man...I know you spent alot of time on that bike.
Hope things work out for you.

Thanks everyone. There would be a lot of work involved to repair the bike, so i dont think i will be doing it. I havent gotten a check or even an amount from the insurance company, hopefully i dont get screwed. I was getting tired of the never ending problems anyway, i couldnt really ride the bike without the fear of being stuck somewhere, i guess i dona have to worry about that anymore. I will keep you posted as to what i get out of it, hopefully a decent amount. Thanks again for all the support, you guys are great! =D>

:) Take a little time off then get back out there
:P That short wheelbase could be fun
