In 1993 I made the decision that my poor old Triumph was too unreliable to be used as a high mileage bike. So I bit the bullet and based on my experience working in a suzuki shop bought a 1979 GS 1000 off my mate. The brakes didnt work, the tank was rotted out, the seat was rotted out, the rear shockers were ruined but the motor was as sweet as a nut and the frame

was straight. This is what she looked like when I bought her.

Within a few weeks I had bought another GS 1000 off my apprentice from which I stole the braded brake lines, the tank, the seat and the shockers. I then had a reliable GS 1000 and this is what it looked like in its 2nd phase.

In 1993 my mate and I organised a 9 day bike tour and The Pig's first year on Tour was 1994. These photo's are some of the fun The Pig has given me on our annual Old Boy Tour.

I love it. The big tank, the sand, the smokey burn outs. Great looking bike, and it looks like it's been a great machine for you.

And any bike can be a dual sport if ridden like one... There are pics of guys in the 40's-50's riding some pretty intense single track, even catching air on 1940's rigid Harley's. Complete with with bags and everything.

PS any tips for riding a GS off-road? I've been spending some time on ADVrider and I'm getting dirt-curious. I figure if Shrizdum can ride an 850G off road no reason I couldn't learn to do the same

I can see the pictures just fine. He uploaded them via photobucket. Perhaps the problem in on that end? I've never had a problem with photobucket but I know others have.

No previous problems with PhotoBucket, I use it too.

They are spread all over the place, but by moving around, I can see them.

So much so that I recognise that bit of sand Max, it reminded me of where I used to drive on and off the beach at North Shore/Tewantin in my Sierra many years ago, and given the pic's are at Rainbow Beach, that explains it

When you're 100kms north of Coober Pedy heading to Darwin you'd better be on something reliable.

We rode for miles and miles with water covering the road and I rode on the white line so I could see that the road was still there.

Darwin,only 4000kms and we'll be home.
